How about set the schedule as if WKU is hosting a home game that weekend from the get go? Just go ahead and plan that ahead of time.

When the contract was signed, WKU was in the Sun Belt. That league doesn't have a conference championship game so the stadium would always be available. After signing the deal, WKU joined Conference-USA, a league that does have a championship game. Obviously WKU is going to do what is best for their program. However, that did put the KHSAA in a bind. A league with 12 teams isn't likely to be won by an expansion team each of the first two years, but it did happen. So both WKU and the KHSAA had to adjust mid-stream.

 

Now, do I think the KHSAA would like to avoid this problem? Absolutely. Will the next contract go to a stadium that will have no conflict? Maybe, but only if those cities actually bid. Until then, the situation is unfortunate, but I think both organizations have done the best they can to resolve the problem.

One final point:

 

The original schedule tentatively said there would be high school football games at WKU on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. When are they playing this weekend?

Why wouldn't you count the number sold? If you send me a Christmas present but don't come to my house for the get-together, did I not get a present? Did Christmas not happen?

Not going to be fun for the late game on Sunday with one team coming from a different time zone and school the next morning. Hopefully , it will at least be on schedule (unlike last year).

Belfry should be on the press box side of the field this year. They were opposite from where we broadcast last year.

If I'm not mistaken, Johnson Central didn't have school the Monday following the state championship game last season. Not sure if Pulaski County will or not.

Who set size and surface requirements? I don't think I have ever heard that before that UK and EKU were excluded. Does anyone have a link to the "invitation to bid" form the KHSAA uses for state finals, that would be an interesting read.

 

Feel free for someone with more info, all I could find is this article where WKU was glad $50 million in renovations allowed their stadium to "meet the requirements." I believe the requirements were an artificial surface, which at the time eliminated UK, and an enclosed club level, which eliminated EKU. Below is all I could find.

Here is the final word on which side of the field the benches will be located. The info I posted earlier was incorrect, even though it came from the KHSAA graphic.

For 2016, the teams in the TOP half of the bracket (Beechwood, CAL, Central, Franklin-Simpson, Bowling Green and Trinity)

o Will use the benches on the baseball stadium side of the field, where the Club and VIP seating is located;

o Will have its fans sit on the side of the stadium where the Club and VIP seating is located;

o Will be the home team on the scoreboard;

o Will wear its dark colored jersey;

o Will have its entire team, led by the head coach, introduced as a unit as part of the pregame ceremony

 

 

For 2016, the teams in the BOTTOM half of the bracket (Hazard, Danville, Belfry, Johnson Central, Pulaski Co and Lafayette)

o Will use the benches on the Diddle Arena side of the field, where the press box is located;

o Will have its fans sit on the side of the stadium where the press box is located;

o Will be the visiting team on the scoreboard;

o Will wear its white jersey;

o Will have its entire team, led by the head coach, introduced as a unit as part of the pregame ceremony

If I'm not mistaken, Johnson Central didn't have school the Monday following the state championship game last season. Not sure if Pulaski County will or not.

Do not believe Pulaski is planning to cancel albeit a nice thought.
