November 23, 20169 yr What exactly are the trainwreck items? Please elaborate. Premiums in Arizona up 116%, for one. Average premium increase up 25% across the nation. A silver plan with a $13,000 deductible for a family. Why bother having insurance? The percentage of people added to the Medicaid rolls, while giving some medical insurance, is a greater drain on the system than there is money being put in the system by those that cannot afford the premium or the deductibles.
November 23, 20169 yr Like all the other people that are buying private insurance, mine has skyrocketed for a lot less coverage. If you don't get a subsidy the ACA has been one swift kick in the jewels. Other than that it's been a decent 8 years. This. One thing I didn't do with him, nor prior presidents, nor DJT is or will be blame them for my financial situation. Read the situation and adjust. It ain't that hard. This too.

I'll have to research your Arizona example. Up 25% nationwide...I can say that yes, my premium has gone up 25%, but it is still under $100 per month. The 13K deductible, have to research that one as well. Isn't the decision to add people to Medicaid a state by state decision? Off to do some research.....
November 23, 20169 yr Posting this link so I can come back to it. Arizona health insurance: find affordable coverage

November 23, 20169 yr Comparing Exchange Plans: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum - Medicoverage.com And this one..
November 23, 20169 yr So, to address the last point first, the silver plan has a $2250 deductible, and a $12,500 family max OOP. The bronze does have a 13K family OOP max.
November 23, 20169 yr Sorry but I don't see the train wreck. In addition to my own company I also sat on the board of a nonprofit that saw a decrease in premiums. There are some problems with the exchanges and individual market that need some work, but my experience of the insurance market has been very positive. ACA hasn't really done anything to the group plans. It's all the private plans.
November 23, 20169 yr So, to address the last point first, the silver plan has a $2250 deductible, and a $12,500 family max OOP. The bronze does have a 13K family OOP max. Even as low as $2250 RM, a family that is struggling just to pay the premium may as well not have insurance. Example: If a member goes in for a procedure and the procedure costs $2000, they have to pay the $2000 OOP. My bet is, the person doesn't have that kind of money laying around.

How will scrapping the AHCA help this family out?

A couple of things: Hospitals will work with you to set up payments. Hospitals also can help find some charitable sources to help defray the costs to patients. These 2 things I know for a fact. And as papa asks, if you scrap AHCA and this family now has no coverge at all, how does that help the family?

Now let's say the procedure costs $7500, the $2000 is a huge savings for the family you are talking about. There has always been a deductible of some kind, maybe not as high. The other option is NO insurance as before the ACA for 20M. I believe most would rather figure out a way to find the $2000. If this country wants to really have affordable insurance for all that includes preexisting conditions and 26 year olds on family plans, then it is going to cost more. I happen to think that is ok for everyone to have the opportunity even if we have higher deductibles and premiums. DJT says he wants to keep those to aspects of the ACA. So if he includes the preexisting in whatever he proposes and passes, you and I both know who is going to foot the higher costs, there is no other way unless the insurance companies want to take less of a profit and we also know that ain't happening. So we either have health care that is affordable for ALL and pay more or we don't and those 20M are out of luck as before. It really is that simple.

The ACA is snything but for millions. Let's not forget, most of those 20 million were added to the Medicaid rolls. They aren't paying into the system but drawing out.
