For now I'm centering on December 7th-8th. Don't take these numbers for an actual forecast but for information purposes only. The latest CFS Snow Depth Outlook is showing 2-4" right along the Ohio River. 1-3" for Kentucky from around Lexington to the north.

 

Parts of Southern Indiana an WKY is showing 5". What is really interesting to me is Central Missouri. It is showing 8-11" there.

 

Also it is showing temps in the high 20s to mid 30s.

 

Now once again let me reiterate that these are not actually forecast numbers. It is way too far in advance to predict actually snow accumulations.

The latest CFS, around the 15th of December is now showing a Low pressure system forming off the coast of Texas/Louisiana area and then moving along the Gulf Coast then take a turn northward and past just east of eastern Tennessee and Kentucky. If the Low follows this track it could throw some heavy snow back towards Kentucky. It will be a couple of weeks before the GFS shows this time period so until then I won't be real confident in how this storm will turn out.

 

Just for information purposes only. Here are some of the totals the CFS model is showing for Kentucky as of now.

 

from around I-75 to eastern Kentucky- 5-11 inches

from around I-65 to I-75- 2-5"

west of I-65 from a dusting to 2"

 

After this possible storm pass by temps could fall into the low teens with some seeing them fall to the single digits!

 

Now remember these totals are for information purposes only and are not to be considered a forecast.

 

 

One thing of note. With the latest monthly outlook released today the Climate Prediction Center now is saying December has an equal chance of seeing normal/below normal temperatures. It had been showing that December temperatures were to be above average.

 

Also as I've been saying after the first of the year it could get very interesting for Kentucky. Well the 3 month outlook for January, February and March are now showing above average precipitation for most if not all of Kentucky. Those north of I-64 having the greatest chances of seeing above average precipitation. Temps have and equal chance of being normal or below average.

 

Buckle up this could shape up to be a wild ride this winter. We'll just have to wait and see.

Taking the day off and going kayaking tomorrow, noticed that the high is projected to be 78 in Ashland! Saturday I'll change the oil and spark plug in the snow blower. :ohbrother:
