Don't think it's necessary and wonder how much of it is a money grab. What was the last new strain a few years ago that was going to kill everyone? Wonder how much money was made off that vaccine? Fact is healthy people on 1st world countries just don't die from things like the flu. I think in the long run the vaccines weaken our bodies. Things like the small pox or polio that had high mortality rates and would even today, sure. But not for what amounts to a really bad cold.

A few years ago, our hospital had two teenagers, both previously very healthy, die from the flu. Generally, it kills more people with other illnesses, but it certainly does kill many people every year in first world countries.

How would you feel if you passed the flu to your parents, grandparents, or even a grandchild with asthma and they died? Anybody can get the flu. Most don't die from it, but some do.

Haha, no. One of my coworkers was complaining at work this morning about 'having to take his daughter to get her flu shot because she has diabetes'. I was asking what his issue was with the flu vaccine, and it started about a 45 minute discussion about vaccines between seven different folks in the office. I was VERY surprised that I was one of three folks total in the conversation who didn't have serious issues with the standard vaccination protocol in the US.

I am not so great about getting the flu vaccine for myself. Some years I have even skipped it for my kids, just because we got busy and I did not make it happen. Now my 2 boys with type 1 diabetes got the flu shot at least a month ago. The flu makes it a challenge to manage the diabetes because it can cause the blood sugar numbers to very irregular.

I think people who have an issue with vaccines, especially for children, are fruit loops.

Have you done any research at all on this or just your opinion? There's a documentary out called Vaxxed. It'll blow your mind. If the autism rates continue at their current rate, within our lifetime the autism rate in the US will be 1 of every 2 children will have autism, including 80% of boys. Other countries that do not have the only option for MMR as the single mass vaccination have extremely low rates of autism. It blows my mind the CDC will not do a double blind study to see the true results. A higher up in the CDC has come out as a whistle blower against the MMR vaccine and the CDC. Lots of cover ups, destroyed documents and falsified documents.

Do some research, and then see if you're so quick to take a chance with "maybe after this shot, the personality I've known my child to have will be there, and maybe it won't". The rates of Measles, mumps, or rubella is so astronomically low and compared and basically non-existent when compared to autism. At the very least, if you decide to get your children the MMR, don't do it 18 months. The risk of autism after MMR goes down exponentially as the child ages.

I don't give a damn what some folks think about me and my wife. We've seen what happens to kids who are diagnosed with autism post MMR and there is a WHOLE lot of folks just like us. It ticks me off when people try and judge us or my child for our choice. It's our child and has no effect on anyone but us. In the event of an outbreak of one of the 3 then we'll reconsider. I think it's extremely shady that they will not break up the MMR into separate vaccines.

As an educator I'm blown away at how many autistic kids are now in the school system. The numbers keep increasing.

I'm curious to know whether or not you're aware of who the person is that wrote and directed this mind-blowing documentary...

Yes, we've done a lot research and reading on this. It's an educated decision we made best on what we feel is best for our son.

I'm not trying to sound like I'm lecturing or anything...but why would you trust the "documentarianism" of a person whose only prior claim to fame was conducting a study and reporting completely fabricated information on the findings of that study to a medical journal? Andrew Wakefield is a shyster extraordinaire.

I'm not concerned with the director so much as I am Dr. William Thompson and the subsequent findings/revelations about the seedy underbelly of the CDC. What it boils down to is I'm not willing to take that chance for diseases that are essentially non-existent in the US compared to autism. I could not live with myself if we gave him the MMR and he became autistic. He's received all the others but I don't trust the MMR. If the MMR was broken up and could be spaced out then we'd do it. Like I said, we'll reconsider in the event of an outbreak but at this point he's not getting the MMR.

And for what's it's worth we were considering not doing MMR long before Vaxxed was even written. My son is 2 and he's awesome and unless there is a lot of cases where MMR is needed, we'll stay the course.

Yes, I've done research and spoken with numerous doctors who all laugh at the mention of that documentary and it's fake fabricated data.

You can believe whatever you'd like, but I'm not buying it, and personally think those that do are at the very least incredibly gullible.

I understand people do die from it. People die from lots of things they most normally don't. tell me this, does the vaccine 100% assure you won't get the flu?

Our kid is due in less than a month. We've told parents and siblings that if they want to be around the baby the first few months, they're getting the flu shot. Can't force them to, but we can (and have) make it very clear that they won't be seeing the baby if they don't.

Autism is more prevalent now because they actually diagnose it. Thomas Jefferson, Mozart, Da Vinci and many others probably were on the spectrum.

Not judging you, but I don't buy that the government knows this and allows it. I find that hard to believe.

Sure Measles, Mumps and Rubella are rare but they are getting more prevalent because people are opting out of those shots.

I don't know how a vaccine could cause autism. Granted we don't know much about autism but the mmr causing it would virtually be unprecedented wouldn't it?

Documentaries do an excellent job of selling what they want. Not always the best source, too much bias. JMO.

I have a vaccine injured child. He was 18 months old, received his MMR shot as scheduled. 14 hours later, he had a seizure and quit breathing. I had to resuscitate him while my spouse called 911. It was a known reaction and reported as such by Cincinnati Children's Hospital At that point, my spouse and I had to look long and hard into vaccines and what we want to give to our children. We also had to find a physician willing to work with us. I totally understand "what is best for society", but holding my non-breathing 18 month old caused me to re-evaluate my stance. We decided to selectively and delay vaccines at that point. My kids were never in daycare, so that wasn't an issue. As they started school, our dr would give them a medical exemption as long as we were proceeding with their shots. At 18 and 14, they are "legal" for school (except that my 18 yr old has a permanent exemption from the MMR). As for other vaccines, we research and make the best decision possible. For example, meningococcal is not required, but I absolutely believe it was necessary to give my 18 yr before he went off to college. I'm still on the fence regarding Gardasil for either of my children.

I understand people do die from it. People die from lots of things they most normally don't. tell me this, does the vaccine 100% assure you won't get the flu?

No. The sales pitch says it should minimize the symptoms.

We all try to make decisions in the best interest of our children. Rocket, if you have come to the conclusion that the MMR vaccine is dangerous to your children I fully understand not exposing them to it.

Someone commented that documentaries are good at selling what they want. Well so is the CDC and big Pharma.

The flu shot is traditionally trivalent. Manufacturers are now moving to a quadvalent version. Meaning, 3-4 strains of the flu are included. The flu is a very fast mutating virus, so there is no guarantee that when flu season starts, the strains in the vaccine will be effective. However, it is believed that even if the correct strains are not included in the vaccine, the vaccine may relieve the symptoms. We forgo the flu vaccine in our house and just continue with good hygiene practices. If we worked in healthcare or somewhere where we were exposed to the public; my opinion may change.
