Our kid is due in less than a month. We've told parents and siblings that if they want to be around the baby the first few months, they're getting the flu shot. Can't force them to, but we can (and have) make it very clear that they won't be seeing the baby if they don't.

Yes. My siblings and parents get one every year. My wife's dad and step-mother get one every year as well. Her siblings get it every year as well. Her mom & step-dad have said they aren't getting it. We've told them that's fine, but they can expect extremely limited interaction with the baby for the first few months. :idunno:

Agreed. For me, there's no down-side to getting the flu shot.

Autism is more prevalent now because they actually diagnose it. Thomas Jefferson, Mozart, Da Vinci and many others probably were on the spectrum.

1000 times THIS! Same with ADHD! Communication, Internet, and social media have magnified these disorders that have been around for years. I am not trivializing these disorders, just saying we now have awareness to provide accomidations. And that's a good thing.

A few years ago, our hospital had two teenagers, both previously very healthy, die from the flu. Generally, it kills more people with other illnesses, but it certainly does kill many people every year in first world countries.

 

How would you feel if you passed the flu to your parents, grandparents, or even a grandchild with asthma and they died? Anybody can get the flu. Most don't die from it, but some do.

I realized I didn't respond to the second part of your post. I don't worry about passing it on to anyone. I just assume if someone is worried about getting the flu they need to get the vaccine.

Also Vaxxed was directed by the same doctor that was caught making up the initial research, if my information is correct. There couldn't be a more biased or untrustworthy source than a guy that blatantly lied about the issue.

What about young infants that aren't old enough to get the vaccine yet? No concern there if you got the flu and passed it on to them?

Could be, the side effects of the flu vaccine can be pretty rough. She had a reaction at the injection site, so the guess was side effects.

Nope. I'm almost never around a young infant and when I am I don't handle them.

I've never gotten the flu vaccine. I also haven't gotten the flu in 15+ years. Girlfriend is required to get it and in 3 years she has gotten the flu twice.

 

Doesn't seem worth it to me.
