I still think Lamar is in front a bit. If he doesn't play well vs UK he could lose it.

How many is quite a few?

Out of 895 1st place votes last year, Henry got 378 and McCaffrey got 290 and the rest were spread out amongst 8 other guys. I would expect before last night Jackson was going to get ~800 or so first place votes. After last night I would say that number has dwindled to ~600. Still a landslide victory unless he has a falls off a cliff against UK and 1 of these guys: Hurts, Barrett, Mayfield go off the next 3 weeks. But even then I still don't see it.

In the meantime, guys like Jalen Hurts are going to have multiple large stage opportunities to make a big impression.

I mean before the game his odds in Vegas were 1/50. He sure didn't help his cause last night, but it's not like he threw 5 interceptions and broke his arm or something. I know Hurts is undefeated, which is a heck of a team accomplishment, but does anyone believe he is the best player in football? How many QBs in college could do the same or better on Alabama's team? Wasn't it two weeks ago that he put up 10 whopping points on LSU?

That's been my point. The award has really never went to the best player. It's always the best player on one of the best handful of teams. If Louisville wins that game last night and Lamar had thrown 3-4 INTs in the process, he's still probably the guy. Now that UofL has been eliminated from the national picture, IMO he's going to lose a lot of momentum.

I'm not ignoring it. I'm simply saying it doesn't impact him as much, because he still got the W for his team. If Lamar would've thrown 4 INTs last night and Louisville still wins, he's still the guy IMO.

 

Let me add this. You'll get no argument from me that Lamar Jackson is the best player in college football, and by a pretty far margin. Only guy that can even come close to the discussion, IMO, is Jabril Peppers.

RG3 and Manziel? He has similar numbers to those guys and still has two games to add. I also understand the best player on best team argument, but wouldn't Hurts have to have somewhat similar numbers to his competition? QB on best team makes sense when you have a Cam or a Tebow, but somebody like McCarron was never going to win.
