There was much ballyhoo this summer with regards to the scheduling of some 6A programs. With the season almost complete, is this still the consensus using Calpreps SOS? Is there a thought that if you don't play the Super 3, your schedule is weak? Is scheduling one "power game" enough to offset an otherwise weak schedule?

 

Lafayette did schedule Trinity and with that game, per Calpreps, they only have the 13th strongest SOS. What do you think?

I'm guessing that out-of-state games didn't count.

Calpreps.com does use out-of-state games and one strong opponent will only boost your overall strength of schedule a certain amount. If you still have other weak teams on your schedule that will keep your strength of schedule lower.

Also, how you perform against that really strong team has an impact on your strength of schedule. If you play a strong team and lose 62 nothing it doesn't help your strength of schedule as much as you might hope.

If you are playing a team ranked higher than 5000 and its not mandated by the khsaa as a district or playoff game then you intentionally have a weak schedule.

That is not always the case. When you schedule 2-3 years out with some teams you are hoping they will be good. North Oldham two seasons ago was in the semi-finals and this year ranked around 10500. How would some one know this? Anderson County lost a few key kids to transfer and didn't perform as would have been expected. Bottom line to me is outside of your district sometimes you play rivals (like within Oldham County) and you then schedule others. To me this is high school ball not AAU basketball. If you want to play a very tough schedule and you have the horses to do it more power to you. If you just want to play a decent schedule within your area that's ok. The flip side is don't complain if you are not getting a lot of love based on a good record but low strength of schedule. Play who is next on the list and let the kids have fun!

SOS is why I bristled a bit when I saw it suggested that Tates Creek may put a running clock on the Rebels. Tates Creek had all they could handle and Boone County very easily could have made it to the second round of the play-offs.

Some districts are stronger than others and that could affect it either way. I would like to see it with district and out of state teams not included. That would hurt powerhouses like Trinity, I know because many won't play them. I think we all pretty much know they play the toughest because of their out of state schedule.
