It makes sense geographically though the difference between the district strengths is a bit annoying. But then when we had the super district and better competition, it guaranteed only one of the big three made it past round three. Sort of a 'darned if you do, darned if you don't'.

Jefferson County schools are close enough they could just forget geography and it wouldn't make that much of a difference. Here's my suggestion:

Each team has 4 set district games. Longstanding rivals (Trinty/X, Male/Manual, Ballard/Eastern, PRP/Butler) could still play but they could pick when outside of the KHSAA set dates for district games. Male/Manual could go back to the final week of the season if they wanted to. All the teams then have 5 games and only have to look for 5 more. Scheduling is easier and the power is spread out some. And FWIW I'd be perfectly OK is Male and Manual were swapped.

You will have to play and beat some top 1000 to win 6a. Right now the top 9 tems in 6a are in the top 1000.

I look at a team like St. X in Cincy and, while their record is 7-5, all of their losses came against top 35 teams in the country (4 against top 20). That's a tough schedule and that gets you ready for the playoffs as they are now demonstrating with their victory over Colerain, which was rated in the top 10. Their win over St X Louisville was their 4th best win.

I have a HUGE amount of respect for CAL and for the program that Stefan LeFlors has built there, that said if CAL played any of the traditional 6A power programs they would get dusted. I have no issue with SK playing a CAL but spouting that its a resume building win is just false. A good 6A program should beat an outstanding 2A program handily.

 

SK wants respect they need to earn it. A win this week against Lafayette would be a step in the right direction for them.

There are 9 top 1000 teams in 6a and 2 more in 5a. Several more across the river. Schedule 4 of them and beat at least 1 if you want a snowballs chance of winning 6a.

There was much ballyhoo this summer with regards to the scheduling of some 6A programs. With the season almost complete, is this still the consensus using Calpreps SOS? Is there a thought that if you don't play the Super 3, your schedule is weak? Is scheduling one "power game" enough to offset an otherwise weak schedule?

 

Lafayette did schedule Trinity and with that game, per Calpreps, they only have the 13th strongest SOS. What do you think?

However, you need to play the Big Three or someone of their caliber (Bowling Green, GCL, etc) and a couple of teams at the next tier (Manual, SK, Ryle, Scott County, etc) to have a strong schedule. There is a middle ground between strong and weak that SK and Ryle fall into.

 

No one considers Male's close game over a CAL in 2013 a 'solid win'. All of Louisvile 6A was down that year. It's no mistake that the finals were Scott County vs Meade County. Not to mention, I and many others have criticized Male for their weak (excepting Trinity) out-of-district schedule and having CAL on there would be part of that.

 

Also, I confused about your earlier post, stating that CAL would be ranked fourth among St. X's opponents. At 1552 CAL would have been ranked 8th among teams St. X has played: St. X Cincy 28, Trinity 31, Bowling Green 159, Male 293, Manual 785, PRP 847 and Lexington Catholic 1480.

Straight from the horses mouth (one of the big 3 HCs), if CAL was in 6A....they would be a Top 10 program in entire state. Posted this on another thread in mid September.
