BGP Top 10 3A

Featured Replies

The beauty of 3A is that you can take Johnson Central, PSW, Bell Co, Lex Cath, Franklin Co + maybe Hoptown and slot them about anywhere in after Highlands/Cov Cath/BG and make a serious argument right now!

It's very interesting that you left Louisville Central (the current #5 team) out of this grouping. Are you saying that they are highly overrated?

I've been one of the only people on here saying that Central is and always has been underrated. I haven''t seen them this year but based on the talent I've seen in the past and them in big games I'd say they are around 7ish. I think they are probably a top 10 team so I don't think they are that overrated. With that being said I don't think they are in the same league as Highlands, Cov Cath and probably Bowling Green.

That Poll is a joke (No offense - please don't take it that way). But Bell County outplayed Henry Clay - who's ranked 4th in 4A - through three quarters. Bell is top 5, if not top 3 in the state in 3A.

So which teams in the top five should be behind Bell County?

By the way, Henry Clay isn't fourth in the BGP rankings ... they're sixth.

If you are going to analyze them that way then explain the Whitley County game...Basically all teams have their great weeks and they all have their bad weeks. It is still early and any of the teams in that top 10 could see the #1 spot by the end of the year. No one is really that dominant where they are world beaters.

CovCath outplayed Elder, a solid GCL team, for three quarters. Should they be number one?

3 quarters doesn't count. Seems like a solid poll to me.

Rockcastle slipped by Corbin who was drilled by Oldham Co.. a team that people thought would be down this year. Does that mean Rock shouldn't even be in the top 10? We could play this game all day;)

I think the poll is pretty good, I definitely could make a case for Johnson Central slipping in the back though. They seem to be the one team, IMO, who has the biggest "gripe". However this is just a poll, to have fun with.

Id move Bell ahead of Central and LexCath.

Also, I don't know if Rock is as good as they were supposed to be. Bell may very well be better than Rock this year. We will obviously find that out in a month or so.

Also, most rankings Ive seen has had Henry Clay anywhere from 4th to 6th in 4A

As 3wishes said, the good showing against Henry Clay is also negated by the close call against Whitley County.

Where is Whitley rated in 4A?

Log Mountain Boy pretty much sums up my opinion. Bell should - IMO - be in front of Rockcastle and Central - maybe Lex Cath also. In regards to Bell's game with Whitley - the game wasn't as close as the final score indicated. And after watching Bell face Henry Clay - I don't think many 3A teams would have defended their spread option offense like Bell did.

Bell deserves to be in the top 5.

I agree, but Bell County led the entire game until 4:40 seconds left. Only by putting Minnefield in shotgun and letting him go "one-on-eleven" LOL did Clay comeback. Bell players played for the most part both ways with HC platooning most units on defense and offense. Bell was tiring toward the end. HC never really stopped Bell. The Bobcats stopped themselves with key turnovers. A poor spot on fourth down penalty and HC WR breaking two yards off the line (no call) were huge down the stretch or we are talking about a Bell dominant victory. Minnefield would not have gotten the ball in those closing minutes. This is all behind, but Bell's confidence was lifted. They played solid defense against a much larger and faster team. The Bell ground game was solid. New passing offense, etc. did not really come into play due to weather. I believe Bell only threw five or six times.

Bell will continue to move up the polls. The Bobcats only have one more tough game on the schedule in Rockcastle. So Bell should finish 9 - 1 or 8 - 2 at worst. CovCath and Highlands have some very tough games ahead of them and each could finish anywhere from 6 - 4 to 9 - 1, though I would say 7 - 3 and 6 - 4 is likely.

Nevertheless, Bell only beat Whitley 24-20 ... Whitley was one play away from winning the game.

Whitley's performance since then (40-6 loss to North Hardin and 48-12 loss to Shelby County, which got hammered by Louisville Central) doesn't do much to plead your case, either.

I understand your point. But you also need to understand that Bell was in a new offense the 1st game and started 8 sophomores, several play some both ways. Also, which Bell made 3 straight turnovers after gaining a comfortable lead. Bell almost beat Henry Clay, and if you want to throw the Whitley Co. game out there, howbout Corbin being 0-3 and only losing to Rock 2-0? Corbin lost to a SL that isn't that great also.
