Current sophomores to look out for next season

Featured Replies

Back to the topic though...

Of the kids I saw this year, I saw two Sophomores that were men among boys.

Best "combine kid" (height, weight, times, etc.): Herron (Trinity)

Best "football player" -- Milton Wright (CAL)

(Not saying Herron isn't a good player, just that he's a D1 coach's dream b/c of their emphasis on "measurables").

I've also gotten to see the Ratliff kid from Oldham on film and he's a very good football player. Hard-nosed and has good instincts; knows how to defeat blocks out in space. I concur with idea he could be a threat on offensive side.

I didn't get to see him much other than than the practice I watched before doing their TV game, but the JONES kid at OC seemed to be a good player for a Soph.

And CAL is LOADED for a 2A school in their lower classes w/ what I feel could be D1 kids:

OL - Michael Lagestee ("only" 6'2, so would need to grow to be D1, but does not play like a Soph in the interior)

QB - Austin Carr (6'2, 200) VERY poised in the pocket, good feet. Throws pretty nice deep ball, and if mid/short accuracy improves (almost a given since he's starting as a Soph and will get many game reps in a diverse offense) could be a 'big-time' kid.

LB - Nathan Green (6'2, 220).

...and they have a 6'5, 230 OL FRESHMAN named John Young who seems destined for a big-time program with his height/length if his footwork and strength come along.

What school does he play for?

I am going to go with CoachJ........I think Austin Carr will end up being very, very good. His skill set is good, but his mental makeup is what will place him near the top. He has always been beyond his years when it comes to poise and composure, whether it being on the filed, or basketball court, or diamond for that matter. He started as a freshman for a reason, and with Milton and the others that he will get to play with the next 2 years, it will be fun to watch. Skill set you can teach and improve upon, mental makeup and instincts are a gift really good players are born with.

Doss

Nathan Bezold- Bishop Brossart

Didn't start in the first 3 games of the season, but emerged in week 4 due to injures. He was a starter on both sides of the ball the rest of the season.

Linebacker

-100 tackles

-6 TFL

-4 Forced Fumbles

-2 Fumble Recoveries

-Had 13 solo tackles in a game

Fullback

44 Rushes/ 222 Yards/ 3 TDs

- about 95% of carries/yards were gained on a simple fullback dive

14 Receptions/178 Yards/ 1 TD

Heck of a football player, has all the intangibles you look for: heart, leadership, and a hard nosed put you in the dirt player

I agree with this 100%. Carr has the mixed blessing of getting overshadowed by Wright, but also getting to throw to him. Carr was noticeably better this year, particularly with his running ability. He seemed more elusive and was an aggressive runner as needed. With his size and two more years to improve, he'll be highly sought after before it's over.

I am pretty sure Michael Lagestee is a SR. Is brother Ryan is a JR who plays DB and is very good.

Milton Wright is a beast -- seen that kid since youth leagues.

Green is a very good Sophomore with high upside.

For Fern Creek, 3 sophomores come to mind.

# 12 Osman Sall started at Free Safety most of the year. Had 68 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 3 interceptions, 6 breakups, and a fumble recovery.

# 17 Isaiah Hester 5-11 190 got hurt early in the year and spent most of the year in a walking boot, he returned and dressed vs BG. Hester plays RB, QB, and even LB/DE. Not sure if he will compete for QB or will play RB on offense. This season he played RB and averaged 7.6 yes per carry.

# 18 Rayshawn Nelson was our 2nd string QB, and with Bryant graduating looks to take over for FC. Not a big guy at 5-7 140, but is quick and tough with a strong arm.

This year Bryant was a 3rd yr starter, Nelson got mop up duty, and also played WR, and returned punts.

For Simon Kenton Jon Sergent RB 69 carries 741 yards 9 tds averaged 10.7 yards a carry and 1 td receiving. Also DT JJ Courtney had 47 tackles, 1 sack and 2 fumble recoveries he started most the season.

Franklin-Simpson

Carlos McKinney-6'0", 206, FB/LB

Terry Scarborough-6'2", 250, OL/DL

Jack Randolph-6'3", 255, OL/DL

Collin Preston-5'11", 185, TE/LB

Jevon Covington-6'5", 185, WR/DB

Dre Atkins-6'2" 195, WR/LB

While on the subject:

Vito Tisdale--Freshman--Bowling Green.

And one more:

Jacob Lacy--DL--South Warren, Soph. Probably the top DL in the state right now.
