Ok, whatever. No one has mentioned Ashland but you, this is not about Ashland. If you havent noticed they are not 2A, and this thread happens to be about Class 2A. :thumb:

Some of the current 2A powers used to be annual contenders in 3A as well. Most of the traditionally good programs have proven to be contenders no matter which class they have been assigned.

Interesting. Historically 2A is the weakest class, but there are very solid teams in 2A. Watusi is right in saying that the top 2A teams would have little chance in 3A and no chance on 4A.

And most would lose to the top 1-A teams!!

GIAT, your absolutely right. But you said "the top 2a teams would have little or no chance in 3a". You BARELY beat a couple 2a powers. BARELY! If you want to make a statment fine, but saying that we (Russell, and Belfry) can't "compete" in 3a, when it took OT to beat us is essentially admitting that Ashland is playing for a semi appearance, too get CHILLED by Higlands or Cov Cath. If your saying that Belfry or Russell would likely also be destroyed in such a matchup, so be it. Just be careful in drawing the conclusion that 3a is clearly better than 2a.

If I remember, Belfry had 52 carries for over 350 yds against your beloved TomCats. We are still deciding between the Jr Qb who had 100 yds against your team and the Soph who ran the offense so well this past week.

I just feel 2a gets less respect than is deserved. Unfortunately, not much can be said now. Good luck to Ashland, they got the job done against a couple tough 2a programs the past two weeks.

Im sure that's possible. I dont know much about 1A...

No....2A is NOT "historically" the weakest. Not by a longshot...

In '03 and '04, I took the time to use the numbers from the Massey site to compare 1A and 2A. 2A came out the clear winner in each year...

Why does someone feel the need to pick on 2A every blamed year ?!?!?!?

:irked:

It's getting OLD and I don't have the energy to do all that again...

BGGreen. Lets assume your right. Why did Belfry beat NCC? Danville, Mayfield are good teams, but C'on man, do you really think they are good enough to beat Mercer Co., Russell, and Belfry. I don't!

Ask Newport Central Catholic how weak 2A is.

Actually it was Watusi that said "the top 2a teams would have little or no chance in 3a" see post #7. I was just agreeing. I know Russell and/or Belfry could compete in 3A, but in no way shape or form could they win Regional Championships nearly every year. Russell and Belfry would likely get pounded by Rockcastle and Bell Co. like we do most years. I know that Ashland would have a hard time against Highlands or Cov Cath, thats a given.

OneIJoe, you watched (painfully) Belfry beat your talented Blackcats in 03 and 04. Do you really think the Pirates would have had no chance against Danville (03) and Beechwood (04)?

I personally think Belfry v. Danville in 03 would have been a great game. In 04, I honestly think Belfry would have beat Beechwood by a couple touchdowns.

You have your opinion I have mine, see you in 2 weeks. ;)

Belfry would have beat scott county, both 1A teams and boyle county in 2004.

Danville was a contender in 3A, 2A and now 1A

Lexington Catholic was a Contender in 2A and now 3A

Belfry was a contender in 3A and now 2A

Russell was a contender in 3A and now 2A

Boyle Co was a contender in 2A and now 3A

My point here is that all of these schools have been a threat to win a state championship no matter what classification they have been. Since all were once or are now 2A schools I am not really sure how you could say that 2A is historically the weakest class.

Obviously over a number of years a school can compete if they move up in clas, especially a private school like Lex Cath. But things like that usually take time...
