What does the NewCath/Beechwood game tell 1A & 2A teams?

Featured Replies

Besides being one of the best season finales in NKY, and perhaps the state, does this games result serve as a barometer to the teams in their respective classes?

As I mentioned in the prediction thread, I think the winner scores first and holds on to the lead. I have no clue who that will be. I think it will be very close. As someone who is associated with one of those other 2A teams, I'm sure my reaction either way will be "Hmmm" when I see the final score.

If either team loses big I think it says they don't figure in the end.

I would say Guru is on the right track there. This game will tell us how big a title threat each team is.

I'm a buyer of what you're sellin'.

Where would each be ranked in the other's respective class?

NewCath I would put probably #4 or 5 in 1A

Beechwood I would put probably #6 or 7 in 2A

Probably just swap the names. New Cath #4 in 1A and Beechwood #5 in 2A.

Both are and will be contenders for a title but New Cath will have a much harder road than usual to make the finals but as of now region 3 in 2A has the mental toughness over region 4 as they've come up short so many times..

A close loss tells us nothing. As we discuss every year, a loss to Beechwood actually is a good predictor of NewCath's post season. They lost in the regular season in 05, 06, and 10 and won the title.

In 2007 and 2008 Beechwood lost to Newport Catholic and won titles. In those two years Beechwood only lost 3 games and two of them were to Newport Catholic.

I don't think it says much. Beechwood isn't Mayfield, Desales or CAL which essentially will be a state title winner (most likely Mayfield). But it doesn't say NewCath won't win the east, which they should

Probably not much unless one of them wins convincingly.

A 21-20 slugfest tells us absolutely nothing. Zip. Zilch. Nada.
