St. Xavier nearly... Part Deux

Featured Replies

I finally saw this after all the talk.

It's on a what appears to be a St. X recruiting page for prospective students. I assume written by the admissions office.

It's just recruiting propaganda but it is kind of funny.

Thanks for the clarification, EastSideJunkie. The way some around here act, you would think the statement was released on stationery with Mike Glaser's letterhead.

As a matter of fact, Mike is in charge of admissions at St.X.

Walked into that one.:walk:

I have no dog in this and I don't see it as a big deal either way given the context.

But that comment was pretty funny, LSU.

What is the big deal? It's True! St. X did win 5 State Championships and "Nearly" won a sixth by going to the state game and losing to Trinity.

What does this have to do with Football? You guys need something more constructive to do with your time. I agree with Watusi from his other thread, this is like 2 Kindergarteners fighting over a toy in a sandbox. You all continually look for something to nit pick or needle the other about, and most of the time it's nothing.

My father, God rest his soul, taught me as a kid, that "If you didn't have anything nice to say about someone; than don't say anything at all." I know this is probably a little too restrained for most of you, but how about we give it a try just for one day. Regardless if you pull for St. X, Trinity, DeSales or Holy Cross what is the one common thread that binds us all together?????.....Yea, that's what I thought you forget every time you post that nasty thread don't you!

Somebody lock down this thread and let's talk Football - CONSTRUCTIVELY!

This must really hit a nerve with our friends on Shelbyville Road based on their reaction. The article states that during the 2005/2006 school year ST. X won one national title, two state titles, and had three runner-up titles, plus made it to the final four of the baseball tournament. All very factual statements. The program also states that during the past 9 years, St. X has won 35 state championships, at least two in every sport except basketball where St. X has been shut out. So I guess you could say only winning two state titles last year was below average. It goes on to mention that the 2005 St. X football team had four members who were National Merit Scholars and who are now attending Yale, Notre Dame, U. of Florida and UK. A fact that should be duly noted in the program, as there are many schools that did not have four NMS total, much less on the football team.

Finally, for many of our posters who are infatuated with national rankings, St. X was ranked the 14th best athletic program in the nation last year by Sports Illustrated.

I am not quite sure why this has generated so much interest, I am sure other schools proudly proclaim their achievements in their various programs and publications as they should.

There is a certain group of Trinity and St. Xavier posters who seem to try to find issues that allege to be to the detriment of the other school. It has become such an embarrassment that it is the topic of a separate thread tonight. These posters consistently misstate facts, feign shock over non-issues, and often thread jack benign discussions about high school sports. The BGP edict that came down earlier noted:

So, you should know that, from the outside looking in, this petty bickering, name calling and lower-case spelling is a bit shocking. It would seem to be beneath you -- reminiscent of two kindergarten kids fighting over a sandbox toy.

Hopefully this newly vigilant policy by BGP will curtail the “kindergarten kids”. Now that Old Corps accurately summarized the “offending text” is there any criticism of the article? If anything, there should be pride in all of us for a team that was runner up for 4A state, lost only one game the entire year, and had four members who were National Merit Scholars and who are now attending Yale, Notre Dame, U. of Florida and UK.

A-freaking-men.

And if you know he wrote it, fire away. Bottom line ... no one has offered any proof of who did. I'm willing to bet Glaser didn't.

First, I have no problem with the text in their program. The story is factual. I often say that Trinity's coach Beatty has been in the final 5 of 6 years winning 4. So yes, a runner-up finish is something to be proud of. I'm sure every team in 4A but one would trade places with X last season.

Now, as to your point Westsider. I don't think that anything gets into that program without Coach Glaser's knowledge and approval. He is the head football coach and director of admissions at St.X. So while he may not have been the one to put pen to paper, I'm sure he wasn't blind-sided by the text either.

Once again, I don't have any problem with any of it and feel that some are making a mountain out of a mole hill.

Agreed.

Arguably your best post ever...BRAVO good man.

I've read the ad. It is an ad for the school, and I'm sure it was approved by Coach Glaser. There no untruthful statements in it. Would you rather have, X didn't compete for the State in 4 sports? By the way, the program is a product of the Boosters, and Coach Glaser has no input unless he is paying for the ad, or it is this one for the school.

Actually, LSU, I am agreeing with you!
