Trinity 28 Manual 3

Maybe, maybe not.
I think that young team showed a lot last night. We may have some good years ahead.

The fourth down play I was talking about was in the 4th quarter, about two minutes left. After both teams were playing their 2nd stringers (Petrino, as noted, an exception.)

You tell me why would we want to GIVE Manual the ball back? That logic makes no sense at all. I'd hope we would try to gain the first down every time in that situation. If Manual wanted the ball back, they had their chance. It's called stop the offense.

You're going to try and taunt me about Manual not being very good?
Relax Ram. Don’t confuse my comment on Manual’s season with what happened on the field last night.

In any regard, Trinity will take some time for their offense to settle. Our defense will continue improving. And maybe we will see Manual in the third round if we are lucky.

Up by seveal touchdowns with very little time left in the 4th quarter, and the other team has put in their young(er) kids for experience because the game is out of reach, I'd hardly call going for it on 4th down conventional. It's not criminal either, but I don't think I'm out of line to mention it.

That's fine. They better get on it, because X is in 3 weeks, and the team I saw had a long way to go on both sides of the ball (further on offense) to win that game.

Again, a pointless dig to close your post.

 I said we would be lucky to make it to the 3rd round. You public school guys sure are touchy.

Mmm. I have a little sister. I recognize passive-aggressive behavior when I see it. Manual would be very lucky indeed, deal-with-the-devil lucky, to mature quickly enough to make it to the third round of the playoffs this year. As I think you know.

OH .......I support Brohm AND Uof L ! Man , everyone is touchy here. How can a Trinity fan NOT be for Brian Brohm ? I have to pull for Nick's ( and Bobbys') father as well.

I still think that Brian may have cheated himself by not attending a Tennessee or Notre Dame. They have the BIG name , and he has the tools , mind and savvy to be a Heisman winner. NOT ,just a contender.

I don't know about you guys , but I'm nervous for the kid tomorrow with that knee. I know everyone says he is 100% ,but I will feel better once he gets it going . I hope he doesn't read these things because this kind of speak can make a kid think a little. I just hope the o-line protects him . An extra prayer won't hurt in church tomorrow morning either.

Manual couldn't punch it in, but moved the ball pretty well in the second half. As for the offensive playbook, I could see a switch to a spread option if we start getting more kids that can run and catch... Right now we have maybe two serious recieving options. But the young QB impressed me last night. In fact, the whole young team impressed me last night; except for a fumble after gaining the first down, Manual could have gone into the half only down 7-3. The both lines are the weakness for Manual right now, that's just going to take time, and I don't mean later in the season.

I was unimpressed by Nick Petrino last night. Manual dropped two interceptions that were gimmies, one a jumped route by a linebacker that Petrino was baited into throwing badly. He played like he was distracted. He did well on pulling the ball down and running, but he's a better player than he showed last night. That's probably why the coaches had him in in the 4th quarter with a 25 point lead and two minutes to go. It DOES NOT explain their decision to go for it on 4th down, but whatever.

The bottom line is that Trinity dominated in the trenches, and #5 broke some big runs late (he had probably had 80 yards on that last drive) but if Trinity had been playing a more experienced team, like X or H, they lose badly last night.

Nick was in there because TRINITY had a big JV game the next day and wanted to use Stein at QB. As far as your comment about Nick, he was not the #1 Rated QB in Jeff. County for no reason and the MVP at the State Championship last year. This kid is a gamer and a winner! ask the folks over at st.x. I`ll take Nick over any other QB in the State. To your point about if TRINITY played a more experienced team they would lose! well we shall see, it looks like TRINITY is going to have to do the same thing again just like they did last year.:dancingpa. But in closing, great game last night, no bad injuries on both sides of the ball and it was great to see the Manual Fans supporting their team.

02ram said that Nick Petrino is a better player than what he showed last night (technically two nights ago as I post this). You can't disagree that he's been off to a shakey start this season. I don't think it will matter too much in the end, though. He his recievers will surely end up on the same page eventually, and the numbers will rise.

He indeed was last season which is why his performance THIS season has thus far been a mystery. It had better be up to his usual standard by St.x otherwise it could be a long night.

I don't think the passing game's issues lie with just the receviers, Trinity's line is smaller than in the past. Although it didn't seem to be a problem run blocking, Petrino was under a little more pressure than he is used to seeing on pass protection.

I'm not saying their line did bad, 280+ yards on the ground speaks volumes, but they seem smaller and younger. The smaller quicker liner seems to be more able to get out and block on the run but perhaps not up to dropping back in pass protection as lines in the past just yet.

Our zone blocking will take time to get into sinc with Cov's new calls, we will get there. Also, keep in mind we haven't been running a lot of the "shift-to's" that Cov loves to run. These kids have not played in Cov's system yet it will take time. Trinity fans, while we love to defend Nick, he has a lot of work to do. In two games he HAS NOT thrown the ball well. That's OK, we will win these next two weeks as well, and then get ready for the biggie. Nick's main problem this year, has been his touch, I think that they will get that down without a problem. Everyone relax, should we have beaten Manual by more? Maybe, but they played with a ton of heart and passion, especially on defense. Great job Rams, and you can see the future is brighter for certain.

I agree with RP....you just can't expect these kids to come in the first couple of games and be firing on all cylinders with a new Off. Coord. There has to be time for adjustments....T will be fine...and will get better each week. Their D looks like they will carry the team on their shoulders until the O is fine tuned..

Manual always plays tough in the big games

I don't think this is as much it as that they have not totally adjusted to the new offensive scheme that they are running. Also, still some movement on the line...another new starter at Right Guard vs. Manual. I believe the backs and receivers are relied on a little more for blocking as well and have not all quite figured out their roles as of yet. I took a look at the '04, '05 and current '06 line....the biggest difference was the '04 line on average was 20 lbs heavier...Mike Clarks 280 at the RT and Brian Coxon's 275 at RG...believe I have those two positions correct....influenced the averages quite a bit.... :) The current '06 line (one that played against Manual) is actually pretty similar to the '05 line....avg ht. is 6' 2" and 225 vs. 6'1 and 222 in '05

Very accurate post, one of the few sensible I have read on this thread so far. Alot can be said about BOTH teams settling into the systems. While Trinity is getting into Coverdale's system again, Manual's young players are just getting settled into playing. Sophomore QB did a very impressive job of running the offense and will only improve each week. At various times Manual's offense had 4 sophomores on offense. (OL-FB-QB) The team, as a whole, will get better as the season progresses. Manual had opportunities and did not take advantage of them, some credit to Trinity and some faults of our own as well. Nothing more, nothing less! Manual's efforts should help prepare them for Warren Central then Meade County before battling St. X in the next four weeks.

^ Great post, you aree dead on.
