I know times have changed but I never would have thought questioning why a teenager would be out in the a.m. in a shady part of town or establishment would be such a crazy ideal.

 

Its because I questioned it. Im very insensitive apparently to some.

At 2am she put out a tweet saying they are shooting at Cook Out and she had the laughing emoji in that tweet.

 

An hour later she tweeted out that Cook Out is fat(packed house).

 

An hour later she was shot.

 

So again, this is a senseless tragedy and she didn't deserve to be shot and didn't deserve to die. Way too young of a life lost. At the same time this is not a situation where she was in a safe place at 4am by chance. What is also sad is how desensitized to unsavory characters with guns that she had become that she didn't fear for her safety enough to leave at 2am. She stayed there for two more hours. This is the type of environment people strive to keep their kids from and sadly even Olympian Tyson Gay couldn't keep his daughter from that kind of environment.

 

Keep an eye on your kids, people. This can happen to anyone.

So I'm wondering if shots were fired at that location at 2am how is it this part of town wasn't crawling with police. And maybe it was I don't know.

This discussion has kind of morphed a little. Let me first say this is tragic and should have never have happened simply because adult gangbangers shouldn't have been doing what they were doing; they are 100% totally responsible for this and I hope they get everything the law can throw at them.

 

With all that said...as for a 15 yo being where this young lady was and when. There COULD be legit reasons for a 15 yo to be out at 4:00 am in the morning at a post-bar closing hangout spot, though I doubt it. My mom said the very same thing that was mentioned above...there is NOTHING going on past 12:00 that you need to be out for...be home. And that was my curfew. Was my curfew at 21 years of age while in the Army at home on leave. Generally speaking kids should not be where she was when she was in most instances. Doesn't mean this young lady was doing anything bad...it's just that bad things seem to happen in sketchy areas at this time of the hour (just like what occurred here) and the best place to be is at home in bed with hopefully a responsible parent around.

Well if you notice those who criticized me havent said anything back either. I guess when PP came up and pretty much thought same thing they knew they were wrong.

It is a horrible tragedy, incredibly sad, and I cant imagine what that dad is feeling (Olympian or not). However, it was a fair question.

I imagine it's because her reason for being there at that time is irrelevant. An innocent girl is dead and all people are interested in is why she was there?

:stop: I don't think ANYONE who has commented thinks she was there being "up to no good". They're just wondering why a 15 year old is out on the town at 4 in the morning......nothing more, nothing less.

Never been around some place and heard gunfire (other than my farm). I think if I did I'd vanish from the area. Amazing she stuck around to tweet about it. Sad to see a life taken at such a young age.

I don't think people assume the "worst" necessarily, but without a good reason it's just not a good idea at all to be out at that time, especially in a sketchy part of town at an after hours hangout where a lot of people that show up may not be in the best frame of mind. The question of parental guidance definitely comes up, and the natural curiosity of WHY in general is a 15 yo out at that time when there AREN'T a ton of good reasons for it to be happening. It could be because she wasn't being watched and a bunch of friends snuck out of the house to hang out...not doing anything "bad" so to speak but also not a reason to be out either.

 

And yes I have had to chase down a teenage girl who thought she could sneak out late at night/early morning with her mother and I having no idea where she was or who she was with and in a total panic...out joyriding with some other girls and an adult male stranger who, as it turned out was a VERY unsavory character. Wasn't a big deal to them, just like I'm sure hanging out at this place at 4:00 in the morning wasn't a big deal to little Miss Gay and her friends.

So what's the cut off before it's considered morning vs late at night? I frequently go to breakfast before I go to work at 4:30/5 in the morning. I sure don't want to get shot since I shouldn't be getting breakfast that early.

How do you know the mother wasn't with her from the article? It doesn't say anything in that article other than she died at 5am. When the article came out, there were a number of legitimate reasons she could be there including being there with a parent. Since the article came out, we now know she was there for awhile tweeting about a shooting.

 

It was a fair question to ask what she was doing out at 4 am but there could have been good reasons why. Now we know there wasn't.
