I agree with you. The west is up in the air at this point. Teams like Bardstown, Boyle County, Lexington Catholic and Louisville Central. Who knows what will happen!

I think the west is a crap shoot to date. Whether a team begins to separate themselves remains to be seen. If so....I still think it will be Central or Lex Cath. I don't see Boyle having enough depth and experience to make a run. Stranger things have happened. I remember a very weak and inexperienced Belfry team upsetting Mason a few years ago and somehow found themselves in Bowling Green....only to get killed by Louisville Central.

Boyle had been beaten by 3 good teams and beaten 3 bad teams. Boyle needs to beat a good team before being considered BG bound.

 

But one thing is certain; the Rebels are improving every week and the Rebels are healthy going into district play.

 

I agree with you on the 3 good and I dont think the 3 wins were over competition near as good as the first 3 loses. However one of those three were state ranked in the class they play in and undefeated when they came to BC. Since I agree with you and they were ranked that leads me to my point in this thread. Until the west teams dust settles (BC GARRARD CATHOLIC PLAY) (CENTRAL AND BARDSTOWN PLAY) we can only go by paper and on paper Collins was ranked but I didn't really see much to show me why. So my prediction is we will see who the west contenders are when the "best" in each district finally play in the coming weeks.

Boyle County may not have the experience but I'd argue that with the tweaks Coach Smith made after the Danville game that Boyle County has more depth now than at the beginning of the season.

That Belfry team upset Mason County and an undefeated Somerset team that was ranked #1.

 

I can see some similarities to what you are speaking about for sure. That was not an especially strong year in 3A, specifically the East, and it became clear that the West had by far the two best teams that year in hindsight between Tilghman and Central.

 

Even though Belfry won the East, I am not sure I would go as far as saying they should have won it. That Somerset team IMHO was the best team in the East but this does go to show that when a team isn't truly dominant (and that Somerset team was far from it) that a strange team can get hot and make a run.

 

I also compare this year to 2009, at least in terms of the West. To me 2009 was by far the weakest year of 3A during the 6 Class System as both Belfry and Central were way down and the two best teams (Tilghman and Somerset) were not even as good as their 2010 versions. With the exception of Belfry and Corbin this year, the rest of the class seems to be as down as that 2009 season.

 

It would not shock me to see Central playing for a Title yet again... it also wouldn't surprise me to see a veteran team like Adair catch momentum and upset some flawed teams and get there as well. It really is that wide open it appears.
