Charlotte PD clarified this morning that the victim got out of his truck twice. The first time he did not have a gun. He did the 2nd time.

Officer was undercover but wearing a CMPD vest.

No body camera on the officer who fired. Seems like there is body and dashboard cameras though.

So what did he think was going to happen?

That certainly changes things IMO.

So is it your opinion that officers should just shoot first and ask questions later every time they see someone in possession of a firearm?

I agree, there has to be more to the story.

If the police have me pulled over or order me out of my car the last thing I'm going to do is get out of the vehicle with a gun in my hand. There's no way that will end good for me.

Police Chief Kerr Putney said during a news conference that officers were searching for a suspect Tuesday when they saw Scott exit a vehicle with a handgun at an apartment complex on the city's northeast side. "The officers gave loud, clear verbal commands which were also heard by many of the witnesses. They were instructing the subject, once he got out of the vehicle, to drop the weapon... Mr. Scott exited his vehicle armed with a handgun as the officers continued to yell at him to drop it."

Putney said Officer Brentley Vinson shot Scott because the man posed a threat. Vinson is black, as was Scott.

A woman claiming to be Scott's daughter said in a video posted on Facebook that her father was unarmed and had a book, not a gun. Police say they found no book at the scene

So if true and he had a gun and ignored the commands, then what happens to these people.

TV footage early Wednesday showed dozens of protesters on Interstate 85 apparently looting semi-trucks and setting their contents on fire on the highway.

Broken glass and rocks littered the ground where one police car had been vandalized. Less than 5 miles away, wooden pallets barricaded the entrance of a Walmart that had apparently been looted.

Talk about not waiting on a version other than what they want to think to come out.

Are we just going to condone this behavior when a cop shoots a guy with just reason?

Give MSNBC time , they can verify that the book he was indeed carrying was a Bible.

I've mentioned my concerns for both private citizens who are legally carrying as well as a police officer who comes across someone with a gun.

Can a police officer tell a person to drop a gun if the person has not done anything other than get out of his truck carrying a gun?

You know better than that. We all KNOW they hate Christians.

I doubt the Bible, they hate the Bible. Probably the new book by Calapari.

What? No way.

Guaranteed they'll say it was a book by Saul Alinsky.

I don't know why they approached him or what the issue was that brought him to their attention. When someone already outside of a vehicle goes back into it and comes out with a firearm in the presence of Law Enforcement they are kind of forcing the hand of Law Enforcement at that point.

Several videos available of traffic stops where the person pulled over went back to the vehicle and came out with a gun to shoot and kill the officer. If it was "As stated" that he got into and out of the vehicle twice, you have to wonder exactly why he went back into the vehicle a second time to retrieve a firearm. Maybe his plan was to shoot the officer, but when he refused to drop it...he really left them no choice if he made any movement with the gun other than dropping it.

It's still early and we don't have all of the facts, but if this turns out to be another cases of people rioting damaging their own community over another lie ("He was reading a book and didn't have a gun") it will be sad.

Dont think anyone ever answered me in the other thread about this but. If these people are in the middle of the road on the highway, and someone just plows right through them, would they be charge with a crime?
