Your Teams Biggest Win?

Featured Replies

1) Memorable: 2001 State Championship. We hadn't won a title since 1994, the longest drought in school history. Prior to that drought, not a single Trinity class had gone all four years without winning a state ring since the first championship in 1968. That was the most fun I've ever had at those temperatures.

2) Notable: vs. Elder in 2002. Trinity had never fared well against the Cincinnati powerhouses. St. X, Elder and Moeller had thoroughly crushed us on a couple of occasions before that. After a 44-20 drubbing, Elder went on to win the Ohio D-1 championship, which is rare for Cincinnati schools from my understanding. An impressive win for Trinity by any measure.

3) Margin: Someone will have to clear up whether it was 2000 or 2001, but when Trinity hung 76 points on J-Town, I'd never seen anything like it. Does anyone else still think it's odd when we score so many points considering we're not that far removed from the up-the-middle-up-the-middle-around-the-end-punt offense?

That was in 2001. My class threw 71 up on them the year before. You guys just had to beat the mark we set. :thumb: :p

Southwestern had two big wins of a different kind and all in the same year.

2003: Sw defeats Marion 76-0 and beat Waggener 20-19 on the very last drive of this 1st round playoff game.

Somerset had a huge win last year that was for the district crown and home field.

2005: The 41-40 win over Lynn Camp

:fire: :ylsuper:

Three , just last year for the Devils ... in no order

1) Newport .... team win all phases .. sum was better than parts... just barely ..

2) Belfry .... Red Army had advantage going in - been there , done that , and had physically dominated the Devils in 2004 . This door had to be kicked in ... again just barely held off the pirates ... champs didn't die easy. This game could be a table setter for many seasons to come for the Devils ..

3) OC .... almost a let down , but how can state championship not be in this mix .. OC either was overated , or just didn't show up ... But on the other had Devil coaches were as ready as any Devil team in any situation .. Coaching and preparation likely won this game ...

Devils have had other big games and wins over the years but last years group of Devils did it with very little if any margin ... Now that's a Team ... It took everything every person had , kids , coaches , staff ...

Lawrence Co's was breaking Breahitt's 42 game win streak and beating Russell at Russell in the playoffs in double OT without our starting QB. They had beaten us at home by about 40 that year.

2002 Russell played Breathitt at Breathitt, should have won that game leading by,I think 18 going into 4th. That was a long drive home.

1998 State Championship win over Mayfield.

You had to bring that up, didn't you!!!!!!!!

I beleive it was 1996 when CovCath defeated Highlands in 2 overtimes. This was a very good game. I thought it was classic when Highlands swithed jerseys and came out all cleaned up in the second half while the CovCath boys were all dirtied up. The next year was when Highlands installed the turf. Best high school football game I ever seen.

That was 2001.

For North Laurel: Upset win over Madison Central last season

For South Laurel: Playoff win over Lafayette last season ending a playoff win drought

For North Laurel I definently think it was Madison Central last season.

But for South Laurel the 2nd round playoff win over Madison Central to advance to the region championship (the farthest a laurel county team has ever advanced) in 1999.

Your wrong on several facts.

1) The mud bowl was in 1997. Highlands won the state title in 1996 and then again from 1998-2000. Four titles in 5 years and 1997 was in my opinion the best of all those teams.

2) Could be wrong, but I don't believe Highlands changed jerseys at the half. Just another myth.

3) The turf was not installed until several years later. I believe it was 2001 or 2002 when the turf was installed. The grass was replaced with a different type of grass for 1998 but it definitely wasn't turf.[/quote

Most of what you said is accurate. I do believe Jared changed jerseys but he was the only one. Fieldturf was installed in 02. We did replace the grass (or what little was left of it from the Mud Bowl) with Bermuda in 98.

1987 CovCath 21 Highlands 20

Down 20 - 7 in the 4th quarter CovCath rallies to the 21 - 20 win. CovCath goes on to win the first of it's 5 state tiltles.

I stand corrected. I agree that this was the biggest game for South Laurel. I would put that one first and possibly a tie for #2 with last year's playoff win and the first win over Corbin a few years ago which was a huge lift for Coach Irwin and the program! :thumb:

Somersetfootball, that was the win against Louisville Central not Waggner in 2003. Pulaski had a shootout with Waggner that year the score resembled more of a basketball game than a football game not for sure what the score was though.

My opinion on Conner's biggest win is only based upon recent history. I'm sure cshs81 could name more important wins that were before my time in NKY. At any rate, I'll go with the victory in the closing seconds at Dixie in '04 when Trevor Stellman hit Lance Durbin for 60 plus yards and a victory as the biggest in recent history. My second choice would be the '02 victory over Southwestern down there. The Cougars had won only 2 games per season for the past few years and were looking for respect. They finally had a their first large senior class in a number of years. This group played with great heart as did Southwestern. An extra point in the second overtime was the deciding point as the Cougars won by 1. Both teams gave all they had that night as well.

Wonder where that ranks on Oldbirds list:sssh:

My Sr year, Dixie beat CCH for the first time in, I believe 15 years. Nees might be able to correct me if I'm wrong.

I thought it was something like 25+ years.
