Best argument I have seen that Cooper should consider platooning - they have started a new QB the last five years. That tells me there are talented players on the sidelines.

How many sophomores start for Cooper? If very few sophomores start, then that also says they should look at platooning.

Numbers wise, I think 50 is the starting point number you probably need to seriously look at platooning.

That's all for me on this topic. I hope you two don't mind a third opinion in the middle of the discussion.

You just said what you stated in this post you never said!!!!!!!!

let me break it down for you.

You said this: "Never once in any of my posts or words did I ever insinuate that all you needed was numbers."

and then in your next breath you say this "Are you saying that out of 50-60 kids that stand on the sideline every week that only 20 have talent at Cooper or Conner??"

Make up your mind RCC, you continue to talk out of both sides of your mouth.

You keep sayin you have to develop players. Wth do you think that means? Are you saying your varsity coaches are having lineman camps all year long instead of letting players play pee wee and freshman football? You make it sound like you have magical camps that players tong players simply sit in a classroom and watch tape and go out in the field to do blocking techniques and never play football at any level until they become Sophomores and then they are fully developed. Because if that isn't what you are talking about then I'd love to what what you do mean because just like Ft Thomas per wee league, Cooper also has feeder program. I know for a fact that the coaches teach the kids how to play and know for a fact several varsity coaches for Cooper are coaches in that feeder program so what the heck are you trying to say???? please inform us what your definition of development is???

Want to know about development? Cooper for the past 5 years have had senior starting QB's. That means the last 4 starting QBs were all 1st time starters and you wanna know something? Going back to 2013 they have out performed every DI QB they went up against starting with Drew Barker and ending with your DI QB last year along with Tanner Morgan.

I'd call that pretty dang good development.

Oh, btw, I never once said that Cooper couldn't ever platoon like you stated I said. As a matter of fact I said in this very thread that 2 years ago they did until the injur bug struck.

What I always did say is you can only platoon if you have the talent to do so. HUUUUGE DIFFERENCE.

I've explained how to develop the talent and comfidence. Don't play all the superstars every minute from pee wee to varsity Sacrifice a trophy every once in awhile for for the common good and the development of more kids. Then when you get to high school, you haven't ran off other athletes that could have helped you or pigeon holed kids in to thinking they'll never play because the superstars never leave the field. If you were a pretty good athlete but not the best football player at the time, would you stick around and sit the bench behind the stud. Or would you move on. Now if you were a good athlete and not the best running back, but you know that the best running back is now going to play RB only and not linebacker where he was also the best linebacker. Now as that other athlete, I see an opportunity to contribute highly by winning that MLB spot. If coach continually would take that RB and stick him at MLB, I'm probably going to end up not playing. Therefore losing some of those athletics kids you are looking for when you want to platoon. But if that kids stayed and they only let that RB play running back, now you are spending four years developing that pretty good athlete to be a pretty good MLB and he now plays that role. If they hadn't of taken that chance, there is a good chance they would have lost that athlete to another sport because he wasn't going to see the field in football due to the elite athlete that was in front of him. Now you don't have the talent. But if you would have taken the time to develop that good athlete, he would have become a great MLB and you would be liking around saying look at all this talent we have instead of saying we don't have the horses to platoon. It's because you didn't give them a chance to develop. Has nothing to do with year round camps or a magic pill.

Since you know why cooper can't do it, tell me how HHS does. And it's not because they have a plethora of talent. I can tell you from first hand experience that I see kids contributing on their roster year after year that I never dreamed could be playing football at the level that are. It's a complete transformation. They were no where near the best athletes at the younger ages and some I never thought would see a Friday night. But they do. Do you think HHS has 44 great athletes to man all their spots every year??? No! They typically have 10-15 great athletes each year. How many of them play at the next level each year. How many of them even go d1 or d2? Not many! So where are all these great athletes HHS has? They are good because they develop their numbers, not just the great athletes.

It did work. They made it to the state semi final game. Btw, never once did I say they didn't have the structure. Just like HHS they have a feeder program.

You said "until the injury big hit them". That would insinuate that at some point it stopped working. And why aren't they still doing it then, because they didn't continue to develop enough kids to sustain it. It's one thing to have a ton of really good athletes on the team and another to sustain it.

Can a mod please issue participation trophies for three of the longest threads I have seen in two years? Hopefully the two participants had relief typers they could platoon in to keep the rhythm going. (Hehe)

I need a stand in. I need to pee!

I can save time because you and I were never in the same mind set if you think my mindset was we didn't have enough players to ever platoon.

I e been a huge fan of platooning but unlike some in here I realize you have to have the players to platoon with and that doesn't just mean numbers. You have to have players that can play at the varsity level and contribute. There is reason why out of couple million kids that play pee wee football, only a few hundred thousand ever start varsity games, and out of a million and a half that okay high school football only 6% play in college at any division level.

Numbers don't mean much if they can't play good enough to contribute at the level they are playing at.

I dont know know of a single coach that wouldn't want to platoon if they could.

2 years ago Cooper had the talent to and made it all the way to the semi final game like HHS did and just like HHS, they lost to Pulaski County. So Cooper can do it when they have the players to do so. When they don't they have to do what they can to win. You sometimes make it sound like these kids will be playing in HS for 10 years so they have time to develop them. That is t the case.

You said exactly what I'm saying "numbers don't mean much if they can't play good enough to contribute." EXACTLY! You have to develop those numbers early so they can contribute! EVERY school that platoons has the exact same issue! Develop the numbers, not just the superstars.

In fact wasn't it just last year that some cooper fans were saying the same thing. That they felt the staff was a great staff but didn't do enough to develop all the kids and felt they focus and rely on the superstars too much. Maybe that was just disgruntled parents, but maybe they were on to something.

You have to take what parents say with a grain of salt. A lot of them are Jimmy's parents who think their boy should be playing and maybe he just isn't good enough.

I just laugh when I hear people say they should "develop" the players. Any program with a feeder program is "developing" players period.

I need a stand in. I need to pee!

I'd develop arthritis in my thumbs. Call someone else's number coach!

It takes a minimum of 44 players to two platoon. If not, the guys running scout team are your varsity first team players.

Conner is either really good this year or SK is down

SK is good and Conner is good also.

Conner #11. Could be a difference maker on offense just needs more touches.

Knowing little about the inner workings of SK, is this the first time that they've used 2 QB's?

They have been doing it all year.
