RCC, not taking a ball anywhere. You may know a lot about high school girls basketball, but you know nothing about Conner and Cooper football. They may have a larger enrollment but they simply do not have enough horses to platoon. Hopefully down the road it can happen but as of now there is no way. Whole different ball game developing ready to play football players than basketball. By the way, just wondering how many downs of football have you played.

I was being sarcastic. I'm am talking about platooning which SK has the personnel to do. Conner and Cooper cannot do it as much at this time. Some posters think just because they are 6A that they should. I simply meant that if Trosper and Borchers had the overall talent that they could platoon. They know what type of personel they have.

I agree with you. Just because you are 6A doesn't mean you have the players to platoon. You are right.

Really?? What are you talking about? I played at HHS. I played plenty of downs of football. I actually played QB until I broke my arm my Jr year running the option against Dixie in a scrimmage the week before the season. (Yes, we used to run the option!) So yes, I know what I'm talking about, but nice try!

 

As far as Conner and Cooper...I didn't call out either school and could care less. I'm saying you can platoon at any school that size if you commit to it. The reason they "just don't have the athletes" is because they don't develop them when they should. Other schools (some much smaller than either of those) that do platoon start focusing on entire classes early on rather than focusing on the starting 11-16 kids. Teams that platoon could care less what their records are at the younger ages because their focus is on developing as many kids at as many positions as possible. That's how you platoon. You don't get to the varsity level and look around and say "Today we're going to start platooning".

 

Look, there will be some adjustment years, but if that's what you believe in then it's very possible at any school of that size. Apparenlty the coaches that don't do it now do not buy in to it for whatever reason. It doesn't make them a bad coach. It's just not their philosophy. But to say you can't do it with that many kids at the school...still don't buy it.

SK will be solid for years to come their feeder teams are playing great football. Senior team, Midget and midget youth team are all undefeated and their Junior youth are 2-2.

I know last year they did. So for anyone (RCC) to make it sound like its the norm to platoon, well they just don't follow high school football very much. BTW, HHS has more players than most teams also.

Is Highlands not smaller? And I didn't say "that doesn't have two way players" occasionally. I said platoon. If you are playing 13-18 kids only on offense and defense that's much different than occasionally playing two ways.

 

Where in the world did I say big school equals great players at each position. It has NOTHING to do with having great players at every position. No high school team has great players at every position.

 

That's the difference! Some coaches want their BEST players on the field all the time. Some develop enough kids to not have to play the best players all the time to be successful. There are tons of players at schools that platoon that are superior athletes that never see the other side of the ball. Again, you either buy into it or not. I'm not saying it's what every coach wants. I'm saying you can't tell me there aren't enough athletes there to platoon. It depends on how you want to use them...or develop them.

Platoons at the high school level makes absolute sense. Having the means to create those platoons isn't something that happens overnight. There are a handful of NKY schools that get it. Yes, 2 way situational players sometimes needed with exceptional athletes.
