August 29, 201610 yr How do you really measure this? Is quantity what you are looking for? Bottom line for me is I do things I will never share because that is not why I do them and everything I do is anonymous, monetarily. Obviously, mentoring is not that way. I can say I do my best to help, but I could always do more. Two important guides to my life is never be "learned" and never deny help to those that I believe truly need it. I have been more blessed that I deserve. That is the very least I can do. Nothing compares to doing good deeds in secret.
August 29, 201610 yr Makes me feel uneasy telling about what I do or have done . Its not exactly what the good book teaches but I guess if its in response to a direct question its not bragging or trying to one up someone . Just to share a few things . I also sponsored a child overseas from Haiti . I have given free medication to many families who couldn't afford their 1-2 dollar co-pays . I've had various young people live in pool house out back . . a drug addicted family member , teens with no family , currently have two females living out back ( who are gay) awaiting their apartment to be ready next week. I've bought a young friend a vehicle ( her first) who had no family and needed a vehicle to be employed . ( She did break our ground rules of not accepting employment and we had to ask her to leave , as did the drug addicted family member - he was stealing from us ) I donate a few times a year to the drug rehab place that saved my family member . I cook for the 50 people up there about 3-4 times a year also. .. So proud of my wife , she started mentoring the youngest female at the rehab house. Drives 30 min every tues to spend the afternoon with her . I also volunteer to teach hitting for free to any young softball player . And I volunteer as an assistant coach at the local university for softball as well. I'm the parent of two great kids , one went military - National guard and was the winner of one of 5 MLK scholarships 2 years ago . Having said all that my heart can be as black as coal and my " goodness" is laughable in the eyes of Almighty God . Only a true savior can save a sinner as ugly as me .

Lately my focus has been on local charities/orgs where the money is going directly into the community. 2. Been a volunteer youth wrestling coach for 7+ years. 3. I'm a board member of a local non-profit dedicated to preserving our green spaces. 4. In addition to all that I'm out there volunteering hundreds of hours every year to various organizations. 5. I get on here and keep it real 24/7!
August 29, 201610 yr Besides my work in my parish and high school, my wife and I are entrepreneurs to help people set up home-based businesses. Also, my wife is a teacher. She promotes values and helps build up young people to succeed.
August 29, 201610 yr Take my kids to church and Sunday School so they will have more sense of good and evil and good and bad choices. Also hopefully have conviction when they do wrong.
August 29, 201610 yr My family has run a Christmas gift drive for 35 years that supplies Christmas presents to the kids of Jackson County, KY via a small Catholic mission church in McKee, KY. Also stemming from the relationship with the folks around McKee, my family started a yearly summer mission trip to McKee a little over a decade ago. We take anywhere from 20-40 folks from NKY down to Jackson County to work on repairing the homes of the impoverished folks in the area. Sometimes the homes are so ramshackle that it's difficult to comprehend how anything could possibly live in them.
August 29, 201610 yr My wife also volunteers at our church , giving advice and mentoring to High School aged girls . And takes a week vacation off work and pays to go work at Reach Work camps , sleeps on a blow up mattress , gets up at 6am , its real fun !
August 29, 201610 yr 1) Stand for the national anthem. 2) Donate as much as I can to charity. 3) Will help anyone that needs it. 4) Try to reduce my carbon footprint and negative environmental impact. 5) I am a Franklin County Humane Society, ASPCA and Knights of Columbus volunteer. 6) I vote. But, none of these activities are of the magnitude that I would really like.
August 29, 201610 yr I paid for my college education to be a part of the first generation of my family to get a degree. I give to the charities ( of my choice) coached, served on parish council, served on a board for a NPO and try to do the little things. I also pay a lot of taxes that help others.

Good point....I thought about it, but forgot to add that to my post.
September 1, 201610 yr Not a lot now. In the past coached basketball and t ball when I didn't have a kid playing. Spent time on Board of Directors of local United Way Founding board member and active worker for the start up of a soccer league in the city I lived in, in Indiana. Coached girls softball albeit with Daughter on the team. Wife and I have donated quite a bit over the years to the local Domestic Abuse Shelter. Reading others I too fall short, but with my new lease on life I was granted this year...I will be looking to do more.
