I would like to see them pick up CHRISTIAN County and Hopkinsville, those would be 2 really tuff games for us.

 

57, Hopkinsville has plenty of room to move one stiff out and add Mayfield. I think they need that game more than you do.

Lets remember, Marshall used to have a damn fine football program. They ran the smashmouth veer and competed with and beat Mayfield some years. Im talking 90's era. It has gone downhill since then and like someone said above, they are more focused on soccer and basketball, they don't have a football culture. Graves is in the same boat, somewhat.

Yep. Amazing how certain cultures are taken on by schools. Marshall had some hard core teams in the early to mid-90s.

I spoke with someone in the know about Marshall County and it simply boils down to trying to rebuild the football program. When you talk about $$ and where the money needs to go its tough to keep throwing it at a program that isn't winning. They want to get some momentum going back in the program and get the fans and the sponsors back on board.

It just seems that we could get something worked out with one of the Tennessee teams TP mentioned. If not, maybe we can try to dip back into the Evansville well. That is something that has been available in the past. The bowl game Mayfield and Graves Co formerly co hosted was always good to bring teams from outside the region until it folded.

I cannot confirm this but many a people have told me that Union City will not play us. Look at the run they have had in the last 3 or 4 years. Don't think they have lost 3 games in 4 years and also have brought home the hardware those years. Again, I scratch my head.

I believe Mayfield had Union City scheduled a year or two ago and they dropped MF. Maybe someone has heard different and can elaborate.

I was told UC told our folks that they wanted to wait until their win streak was over and then they would play us. Their win streak ended last year and supposedly contact was made but there were no common dates that could be worked out for the time being

Not saying this is incorrect, but keep in mind that Union City (I think) competes in a large district. Like 8 or 9 teams, I believe. Not as if they have a ton of opportunities like schools in Kentucky to be flexible with scheduling. Someone can correct me on that if I'm wrong, but I honestly don't think it's a matter of being scared to protect a streak.

I know U.C. played in Pennsylvania last year or the year before and just crushed the team they played. Can't imagine they got much out of that game other than an easy win. Had to be some other reason to schedule that instead of finding someone nearby .

They do play 8 mandatory Region games. In TN they group A and AA together for regular season district games, supposed to cut down on travel. 2 games isn't a lot to work with, but if they honestly wanted a piece of Mayfield, I think it would have happened by now.

You also have to consider that they probably aren't worried about playing Mayfield. no bearing on the post season and they might just like things the way they are. I think they are winning Class A titles so if it ain't broke....

In the past that was correct ( large district) but I was also told that the large district will be broken up starting next year. My UC source, who is a avid football follower from UC, is not by any means in the know so anything I have said could be way off. If I implied they were scared that was not my intention. When you win like they do I doubt they are scared. I do believe they wanted to wait until their streak ended and I also believe they made an honest attempt to add us but could not line up the dates and finally I think this is a game that will happen in the future
