What has been a becoming "fad" in recent months is that anytime the 16th region is noted in a thread "alone" talking about 16th teams and players....there is always 1-3 people who jump in take a shot at them and compare them to another part of the state that is obviously "BETTER" than them.

 

I really could care less how matchup's of players from this region stack up vs. another, and I believe the intent of this thread was to "highlight" those players inside this region and in no-way, shape, or form meant to polarize and place these kids or teams on a stage that is much more significant than other places.

 

It's nearly to the point of hilarious, comical, and eye-rolling:rolleyes: to the amount of displeasure people have towards basketball players from NEKY.

 

A few notes....

 

*Haney playing the 5 spot would perhaps be for defensive purposes only I presume? Offensively he may be the most gifted player throughout the floor that the Cougars have had in a while and there have been many great offensive players. I'll not stretch to the degree of "BEST" but many, many people from the area will note throughout the year of the versatility of Haney

 

*For Rowan County, 6'7" Blake Pettit is the biggest ? and perhaps the key to huge success for the Vikings. The ability to defend, rebound, and score will be necessary and vital to the composition of the Vikings and ultimately "relief" Daniel and Martin will need throughout the year.

 

 

*I concur with Cubster, Wolfenbarker of Greenup County is the region's most underrated player and exception athlete and PG. The musketeers have had a great history of PG's from Boo Williams in the early 80's to Chris Plummer, etc. Wolfenbarker will place his stamp as another solid Muskie PG capable of putting the team on his back and carrying them.

 

*For the 2nd year in a row, I'll go with Bath County as the team that "should" do better than their record and performance of recent past. Blandon Clemons, Cortez Williams, and Zach Metz are capable enough and talented enough to win games for the Wildcats.

Cortez could have graduated and I made an error, I'm unsure.

Great! Now let us match them up with other regions in the state starting with the 11th Region team.

I love the 16th region and always root for the region when we play someone out of the region.Having said that I think we would have a very difficult time matching up most regions in the state.I make this observation after watching an extensive amount of basketball(Both regular season and AAU) the past 5-6 years.I will say that I believe we have an exceptional group of 9/10th graders in the region this year.

Whether or not he is in the starting 5 or not I dont really care but if were matching up with outside regions give me MR. Smooth from Rose Hill. He is the best big time D1 point guard prospect from this state in the last decade or more.

Chad Jackson will remind many of a highly focused version of Marques Dawson. He is only a ninth grader and, to be compared to Marques at this stage, isn't too bad.

What is Chad Jackson's age? Heard he was 15 for sure. Is he a hold back? Should he be in the 10th grade? Just curious. He is a good ball player.

As with a goodly number in this area, Chad was held back one year. As for four more years of participation, he is well within the standards established by KHSAA.

You have some kids in Kentucky that were true frosh (not held back) and playing in the 16 under and 17 under levels. So just how good is Chad Jackson? Why did he play down a level?

No offense, but if you truly understood the current state of AAU basketball, you wouldn't be asking such questions. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but every top AAU team in the nation has the mamimum number of grade exceptions allowed on their team. ( I actually suspect that some have more than the legal limit of three, but that's another topic for another thread.)

 

Even so, it won't matter too much in a year, when age becomes less of a factor than grade level in AAU.

I do understand AAU all too well. I just do not understand how a kid is getting hype for playing down. Those arouond him should play him to where he will gain skills and knowledge, not trying to get him ranked by playing kids younger. Let's hope this Rose Hill kid gets some "good" advice.

Like most good young prospects. Both Jackson and Euton spent the majority of the AAU season playing up in the 15 and 16year old divisions. They did however play in the AAU Nationals in the 14 and under division. Although I didnt attend I would not be afraid to say that most of the better players and teams there were made up of kids that are or close to 15 years old.
