Question...Are the recruiting services that put together profiles for kids worth it? The top level kids probably get noticed, but what about for the kids that have skills for a lower level? Do the services help out a lot?

Some may tell you yes, but I don't think so. My question to the ones that say yes would be, did they get something that they could not have gotten without the service. Meaning, people will tell you yes they work, look at my kid. And the kid got a D2 offer to a decent school. My question is, would they have gotten that or a similar offer anyway and your just attributing it to the recruiting service?

 

IMO, get out and play and try to get to the highest level you can in competition. Get to exposure events in your sport (I know in football this is a little different). Get to camps at the schools you're interested in. I think there is some benefit to some of the things a recruiting service does, but I'd question if you couldn't just do those things on your own. Recruiting services will tell you they can get you the exposure. But what does that really mean? They get your profile on some coaches deck that has 200 other profiles already sitting on their desk and videos of 300 kids sitting in their inbox. Coaches don't have time for all that. It's great to think your kid is different and this ABC recruiting service is better, but in reality it all comes down to how the individual coach likes to recruit. What is his/her style of finding kids. I can tell you mine would not be just browsing thru hundreds of profiles or watching countless hours of film on different kids. Maybe if I already had some interest in a kid, but that would have come from getting out and seeing them play.

It's really tough to say. We had a Major D1 coach tell us this week at his camp that we needed to get out and market our recruit better. Said she wasn't as "known" as she should be. He said "send me some tape". I was thinking, our tape isn't so great. Soooo, it depends on what your recruit and what you are looking for. Evaluating the payback on a quality tape is tough to judge before you spend the money to make the tape. In my mind, there is no substitute for quality AAU exposure. Setting up coaches to see your recruit play is critical. Also, if you have a respected trainer and/or coach who advocates for you, that is pure gold.

Clephane is not even on that list and she has an offer from Ball State and a lot of other D1 interest with many visits scheduled. SO...I would not put much stock in where people are listed and if that qualifies people to have "college potential" or not.

I think I've noticed that the support of your AAU program has tons to do with that. Not every kid on the list had their name fed to every college in America and most didn't play on the same big stage but still managed catch someone's eye. So kudos to those girls that made the list, that never been to a Bolus camp and clearly have college potential. I know three girls on this list with D1 offers that just have not blasted it out to the public yet until they've decided. If they have offers, someone's noticing.

Wow! How is this list generated???? Fun to talk about, but off in my opinion.

 

Just a couple things. I won't say them all cause I don't want to put individual kids down.

 

Aly Johnson - already committed to Bucknell (D1) I would assume that would qualify as "College Potential". She in the "second 25"??? This is especially puzzling with another name that lands in front of her in the "second 12"

 

I didn't see McKenzie Schwarber on the list and she could argueably be the best player in the 10th!

 

Some others are head scratchers on there too.

 

And continue no love for the NKY 10th grade class. I see one 10th grader on there from NKY and the names below are all on that level or above!

 

Zoie Barth - HHS (how in the world she doesn't make the list is crazy)

Lauren Scwhartz - Ryle (how in the world she doesn't make the list is crazy)

Simple RCC9 they have not been to his camp, if you notice some programs have 5-6 kids on there because some coaches send groups so they can play together. I would not worry about the list, play with a good AAU team, you will land somewhere. Hard to see every kid out there. We have some good young players in the 8th that are not on there and better than some that are that is just how it works

I was under the impression that you were a Northern Kentucky expert? Do you know for sure the recruitment stage of every girl on the list since not all are from Northern Kentucky? I can assure you as I previously stated, some of the girls with D1 offers have not made their decisions public or announced or still waiting to narrow top 5, which I would say is pretty good for college potential if you have to narrow your choices. Every girl in the first and second 12 are sitting on college offers, some have even verbally committed, yes all of them. It's their family decision to decide when to make the announcement. So I'm not sure why you think they should they be ranked lower vs. the names you mentioned. Have there been college offers to the names you mentioned? Also, how many of the girls on the list have you seen play over the summer? I personally coached over the summer and have seen every last one of these girls play. I also have also spoken to lots of parents from Northern Kentucky and other regions at College camps over the last few weeks and know for a fact the the ones on the top 25 are sitting on D1 offers.

What are you talking about??? I agree with most of what you said in your previous post. But I think you are taking my post incorrectly.

 

And I would be very surprised if EVERY one of the "top and second" 12 have offers. And I would be surprised if they were better than the offers that some below them already have committed to!

 

I don't care if families have announced their offers or not. That's their business. And I don't care what offers they have. I'm sure they are good. I'm saying there are some names that aren't mentioned that should be if we are considering others on this list. And I'm saying there are definitely kids listed lower that are better college prospects than kids in front of them...regardless of who has offers and who doesn't! I haven't said one name that is on the list that I felt shouldn't be on the list, so you actually have no idea who or what I'm talking about.

 

And yes, I know a lot a kids from across the state from coaching AAU for 8 years, leading an AAU Org for the same amount of time and having two girls that played competitive AAU...one that still does.

Forgot to address this. Just for clarification every player in the second 12 has received a college offer and some more than one. If you have not noticed they are mostly seniors. But again, when the player and her family decides to tell the world where their kid is committing, then it will be up for discussion.
