Excluding fictional characters, who was your first hero?

Featured Replies

My mom. Widowed by the age of 45 with 2 of her 4 kids still in the home. She worked nights for more money and so she could get us off to school in the morning and welcome us home in the afternoon. Woman was a saint for putting up with my younger day antics.

Other than my parents. I'd go with Alan Page.

Roberto Clemente, my grandpa and my dad. Clemente was first, until I understood more about what dad and grandpa did in the Army in WWII and Vietnam.

My grandpa and Bo Jackson/Ken Griffey Jr. Yep I wanted to be all 3 of them.

Darryl Strawberry when I was a kid. My dad when I was an adult.

Count me as another whose dad was their hero. Still is, too.

I've never met anyone who has had anything but respect for my father. I can't even start to tell you how proud I am to share the same last name.

Same here. I've never heard a single bad thing said about my dad. Anytime I put a picture of him on Facebook the comments show me how blessed I am to have him as a dad.

As far as sports I always tried to be Ozzie Smith. Of course my dad was there trying to help me do it.

Darryl Strawberry when I was a kid. My dad when I was an adult.

I'm sensing a trend in those kind of shifts among guys our age.

Never really totally thought about it on that level, but subconsciously my whole life has been spent trying to emulate my old man's willpower, kindness, generosity, calmness, friendliness, fairness and honesty. It drives me to overcome my many failures to live up to his example.

4th grade classmate, Tommy. I dropped my new baseball glove in the St. Joe river (South Bend, IN). I waded in after it & got swept away. As I flailed, Tommy was able to reach out & pull me in. Saved my life.
