Jason Frakes article: UK interested in hosting KHSAA State Finals

Featured Replies

I'd love to see it back in Lexington. I'd love to see it back in Louisville. I'd love to see it back in Bowling Green. What's wrong with rotation?

I think the rotation would put pressure on the staff. The first year at a venue is a learning experience - with stress, extra cost, etc. Things then get more into a grove. A three way rotation vs. a two way rotation or not rotation would be hard on staff.

But the concept is great.

But wouldn't UK hosting compete with the SEC title game?

Oh wait, I forgot that's at a neutral site each year!

I think that has to be a major factor. For me, the schedule at WKU isn't enjoyable. I'd rather have 2 full days. I'd choose either UofL or UK based solely on the fact that you wouldn't have to worry about what that weekend might be like. I think those 3 schools are the only options. The rest are too small or too remote.

Too small? We haven't seen a full stadium for finals yet. All of the FCS and FBS schools would accommodate the attendance with room to spare. Or so I would think. I agree that the 2 day format is much better for all involved. I hated the feel of the games at Papa Johns...made the games feel empty and small. WKU is a GREAT venue, but the schedule lately has been a bit of a hassle.

I'd prefer Louisville, but I'd be happy with Lexington. Either one vastly improves my driving time. I'd actually be able to go and return in a single day.

Chuckle, that little fact matters far more to me than what stadium they are playing in.

I meant size less in a pure numbers sense, and more in a stadium size sense.

WKU has 2 full stadium sides, which would allow home and visitor seats to be roughly the same quality with the same view. Having both fans on the same side creates a viewing issue. Look back at the stands at WKU. They're all between 35 and 35. You end up having one team G-50 and the other fans 50-G.

Plus, as far as I know, EKU, Murray etc. don't really have much of a "club level" enclosed seating area. Do they?

I just think they only capable venues would be UK, UofL, or WKU.

Prediction: The stadium will be as empty-feeling and impersonal as it always was at PJCS. Folks just won't mind it as much because of the color scheme.

Even 10K folks for the 6A final will feel empty. HS football in this state simply isn't a big enough deal to be playing at UK or UofL. Not enough people care.

Lexington is my top choice. I despise Bowling Green and WKU. And I'm pretty sure I know how happy Pond Creek people are to go every year, but I'm sure they'd rather drive to Lex.

I would think kids would rather play at UK or Louisville. I'm sure it wouldn't matter if they played it in Walmart parking lot if it was for the state title but if they had a choice I bet the majority would say those two.

Probably every two or three years would be good.

It is all about the money. The city that puts forward the best bid will get the contract.

(i.e. NKU and Girls Sweet Sixteen)
