I actually believe it's illegal to use one to film a game.

Although, personally, I really like the angles they can get.

If it's illegal, it's been let slide for several years. KCD has been doing it for about 4 years now.

The law was just passed this year that drones cannot be used at sporting events. This was one of the outcomes of the drone crashing into the press box at commonwealth stadium at UK's season opener last year. KCD is in the clear for the last 4 years but should not use them this fall during games.

Boyle's drone is for practices, scrimmages, and 7v7. Drones are banned by the KHSAA for any sporting event.

If you read the article you saw where Boyle's drone has to be registered with the FAA. Saturday at Central Hardin HS, the drone would not fly because it violated airspace near Etown's Airport. So I guess by registering, the FAA has the ability through GPS to prohibit drones from flying. I thought that was pretty interesting.

From KHSAA.....

All member schools and officials are reminded that many months ago, the Board of Control adopted and distributed a policy that restricts the use of Drones at any scrimmage or contest. If game officials observe a drone in operation at a KHSAA sanctioned contest (preseason, regular season or postseason), the contest should be stopped, and game management shall take all necessary steps to stop such usage. The game cannot resume until the activity has stopped.

As someone who is very knowledgeable about drones. I strongly dislike them. They are not very good instruments if they are placed in inexperienced hands. I worked on and rebuilt a couple broken ones this past year. Not fun experiences with Drones to say the least.

I've been hired by the Boone County school district in case this becomes an issue. My services fall under the phrase, "shall take all necessary steps to stop such usage." As I see it, it won't delay the game long, at all. The hardest part will be finding all the pieces and removing them from the field.

Do you have experiencing repairing one that's suffered a shotgun blast? In the interest of good relations with the owner of the drones I am hired to remove I want to be able to recommend a repair service. PM me if interested.

I like what you did there. Well done!

I appreciate the spirit and the humor. But considering most people at a FB game would flinch if they heard a shotgun blast — especially a drone operator — don't you think actually shooting one down that way would be pretty difficult? Shotgun goes off, drone operator flinches, sending the drone off in another direction at just the right time for the shot to miss.

Good point. I'll be sure to bring my semi-auto so I can get another shot off quickly. This is sounding like more fun all the time. I hope this can develop into a full-time occupation.

Basketball games may pose a few other problems. I'll need to start thinking about that now. Thanks for the heads-up.
