hoops5
Police said an officer responded to a call about an armed disturbance at Second Street and Edgerton Drive about 1:30 p.m. The caller reported that someone in a vehicle was firing shots in the area. Investigators said officers reached the scene about five minutes later and said several people jumped out of the vehicle. One of those people was taken into custody right away. Police said that Melton, who was at the scene, tried to contact another fleeing suspect, shots were fired and Melton was hit. Melton was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead just before 3 p.m. Police said two people are in custody. They said they are searching for one or two additional people. Police are still mourning the loss of police Detective Brad Lancaster, who was shot and killed on May 9 while checking out a report of a suspicious person near the Hollywood Casino. The man arrested in that shooting has been charged with capital murder

capt278
Dang shame. Prayers to his family and his fellow officers. The war on LEO continues.
Jumper_Dad
I'm getting tired of these stories...while this doesn't appear to be a case where an officer was specifically targeted, it doesn't make it any easier. Prayers for his family, both Blood and Blue.

Jumper_Dad
My wife sends out Condolence Cards to all departments lose an officer in the line of duty on behalf of the Sheriff's Office. She was on vacation last week and was busy before vacation so she had two weeks worth to send out when she got back to work this week...she sent out 15 cards yesterday. 15 officers died in the line of duty according to the ODMP in just over 2 weeks...so sad. Jumper_Dad
Were the two of you worried about lighting up the White House over the past five decades, or just recently? Was the White House ever lit up before the death of Prince or for LGBT? I for one, never knew lighting up the White House was an option until it was done this year.

Jumper_Dad
I don't think the White House should ever be lit up for anything. Since it has been lit up for the death of a Pop Star and for Gay Rights, why not light it up in Blue for massacred Police Officers? Maybe also... Can we light it up in Green every time a Army Soldier dies? Can we light it up in Tan every time a Marine dies? Will it be lit up in Red if Jordan dies? Why wasn't it lit in a special way for Ali's death? Maybe light it up in Orange and Green if the Hurricanes win the National Title this year? It should have never been lit in any color but since it was, why stop with Prince?
John Anthony
Were the two of you worried about lighting up the White House over the past five decades' date=' or just recently?[/quote'] Just recently when we started doing it for musicians and political beliefs. I personally think we should show respect for murdered police but that's just my opinion.
Jumper_Dad
I have no idea, but that wasn't my point. I know, your point was why didn't they complain before...well no one complained over the past 5 decades because no presidence of coloring the White House had been set. Once it was lit up for one or two things this year, then why not this too?

It should have never been lit in any color but since it was, why stop with Prince? Great points and examples. With the whole "lighting up" of objects being sort of pop culture now, I don't have a problem with it in general. I remember the many, many places lighting up purple for Prince, including lots of singers on tour doing it during a tribute of "Purple Rain" for Prince. The problem, as you mention, if you aren't doing it every time something happens, whether it is happening across the county/world or not, it comes off as biased.
