No you are right I'm sure they are. If police over stepped their bounds I'd be the first to jump on the students side. But simply offering a place for them to sleep isn't against libertarian principles. They are human just like me.

 

It's not like police want to bust Case students. I'm pretty sure most the students still on campus are med students .

We are skeptical of governmental authority. That's all part and parcel to how we view freedom and liberty, not just from a fiscal conservative standpoint. However, having law enforcement stay in empty residence dorms does not constitute forcing governmental authority on anybody. To see it as such is paranoid beyond the extreme, even for the most left leaning Libertarian. Come on, the cops have to sleep somewhere.

 

I know few Libertarians that are anti-LEO, but there are some. Every group has an idiot faction.

 

Having said all that, as a Libertarian, I would hope the RNC is paying for those dorm rooms.

For example, libertarian magazine "Reason" has been especially skeptical of law enforcement. (To wit: The State of Cleveland's RNC Security State - Hit & Run : Reason.com)

 

With that said about half the petition's points asked for clarification about whether the police staying there would be able to exercise authority over the students or would have any jurisdiction there. I don't think that is remotely out of the libertarian mainstream.

I can see the jurisdiction issue. That's reasonable.

I 100% enjoy mocking liberal college students. Started in Sociology 101 and has never stopped.

To each his own, but I don't agree. I still believe the petition to be petty and paranoid. The city is simply looking to house the police securing the event, not trying to impose control over the students. The students need to get over themselves. They are really not that important. Not at this time and not in this climate. The cops have bigger fish to fry, this week.

 

As far as reason.com goes ... Sorry, but I simply do care what any propaganda site says, though I read the link and found your characterization of what a true Libertarian is in the last sentence of the article. OK. If that works for you, so be it.
