All State Baseball Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 Talk about trimming the season games from 162 to 154 MLB Could Reduce Schedule Length - MLB Trade Rumors
Clyde Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 Maybe TV money can make up for lost revenue. 8 games doesn't really make much of an impact on anything. Not sure what the real gain is other than finishing the season in October vs November.

lawildcat Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 For who? For the fans...Nobody likes to watch baseball in November
Clyde Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 For the fans...Nobody likes to watch baseball in November I get that but do you think MLB will actually benefit? Are there fans NOT watching today that would watch if the games ended a week earlier?
HammerTime Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 Finishing the season a week early does nothing. If you are going to do it, then it needs to be 15-20 games IMO.
00Rocket28 Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 No sense in 162 games. I think 140-150 is plenty

Not sure what the real gain is other than finishing the season in October vs November. I think starting the season a little later would be better than moving up the end date. That first week or two is always a crapshoot for weather, which typically has an impact on performance.
TheDeuce Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 No sense in 162 games. I think 140-150 is plenty Agree. Also agree with HT. 8 games changes nothing and not worth the trouble.
BaseballIsLife Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 I think 100 games is plenty. However the sticking point will be that if they start shortening the season is that these companies in the TV deals will want to pay less money since they are no longer playing the length of the season when the contract was negotiated. That's where things will fall through because these teams will have to give some of the money back which they don't want to do.
Clyde Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 There's got to be a benefit for MLB; otherwise, why would they do it?! A. They haven't yet. B. I haven't read details but it seems like it's a proposal FROM the players' union which doesn't mean any owner is interested. C. If there's not some sort of financial concession to the owners it will fail unless the players are willing to strike over it which I can't imagine they would be.
