Traditional etiquette rules you don't understand or agree with

I tried to explain to the missus after last night's supper that a protracted belch was a compliment to the cook.

She told me to keep my compliments to myself.

No wearing white before Memorial Day or after Labor Day.

One that may fall into this category that I've noticed in recent years is the lack of formality for wedding guests especially males. I'm always amazed at how casual dudes are when they show up for a wedding in a church. Jeans. Golf shirts. Saw a guy rocking shorts a few weeks ago. No jacket.

I'm old school in this area.

I will always wear a shirt and tie at minimum to a wedding.

In large part due to churches relaxing their dress code. Nothing erks me more than going to church and peeps in jean and t shirts, or shorts.

And pants, hopefully...please also wear pants.

I served communion in shorts the other Sunday (may have also had a t-shirt on, but might have been a polo work shirt, can't remember now). Now I wasn't originally scheduled to serve, but had a few that were scheduled not show up so I was pressed into service. I absolutely hate to dress up and have pushed the envelope at work in the past. I'd wear gym shorts, t-shirts and tennis shoes everywhere if it were social acceptable. Now, with that I know there are occasions one should dress up, and I have two very very nice suits that I wear a few times a year.

I think a lot of it depends on the church. There's a wide difference between the SPX/Blessed Sacrament/Saint Agnes compared to the Restoration Church in OTR. You wear a t shirt in one you might turn heads. You wear a collard shirt in the other, you might turn heads.

Elbows on the table for me.

How about you?

Not true, according to the folks at Emily Post. The rule is don't EAT with your elbows on the table (like you're shoveling it into your face).

Larry The Cable Guy was at the Emily Post home & headquarters. They were providing instruction to him on appropriate dinner etiquette.

Never understood this.

Maybe people aren't aware, but God doesn't care what you wear...

Guess its all in how you grew up. I was taught that when entering the lord's house, you dress your best.

Great for you.

And exactly how do you know what these other people are wearing isn't their best?

If a wedding isn't Pants Optional, I'm not going.
