I'm not making a leap at all.

If a person thinks the solution is to "do nothing", at the very least they don't care that people are being murdered.

I know full well most people don't agree with me and I'm 100% okay with that. Just reaffirms my beliefs...

You equate the fact that they don't agree with every gun control measure with them wanting to do nothing. That's the leap.

Banning and restricting guns isn't the only possible solution, right?

To the bolded, absolutely correct.

No, I'm saying those that aren't willing to even begin to have a conversation about possible solutions. If a person is one that says, "there's absolutely nothing wrong with what we're currently doing, I'm not interested in having a discussion regarding solving this", then yes, those people don't care that it's happening. That's not a leap IMO.

You also said it's the majority of pro gun people, when almost every pro gun person here agree that some things need changed, just that further restrictions on guns isn't necessarily the answer.

Guns are absolutely part of the problem. Denying that is refusal to accept the truth.

The gun doesnt pull its own trigger.

And it is the majority IMO. There's some on here, and many more not on BGP.

Most on here have said further restrictions aren't the answer, but they refuse to provide options themselves.

How do you know enough about the majority of pro gun people to make that statement? You don't.

By the same token many on the anti gun side have zero other solutions other than the ignorant "ban the AR15", "you don't need that to hunt" non sense.

It's quite simple really, you take a sample, say the pro-gun people you do know, and see how they fall on the issue. That's usually a pretty good indicator of how that specific group falls in general.

Is anyone really saying that in this convo? I haven't really interpreted what people are saying as what you have quoted above. Or are you just making a statement about the general public?

I am definitely pro gun, however, I have no issue with banning certain clip sizes or implementing waiting periods for guns. I know the big argument is criminals will get them no matter what, well maybe just maybe having a few regulations in place will prevent even just one person from being able to commit the acts that we are seeing more frequently today than ever before.

Very much more so the general public.

The gun doesnt pull its own trigger.

Which is why I said part...

That's not been my argument on here. I've said it's worth considering, as are pretty much all options IMO, but it's never been my contention.

- They need to improve the background check process first and foremost. Make it more extensive, make it take longer if need be to do their due diligence. Make sure different organizations are sharing intel.

- Have some sort of mental health screening involved.

- Restrict or closely monitor the access to weapons that those on mood-altering medications have.

Those are all things that either I or others have thrown out as solutions in this thread or others. Most are just ignored by the "pro-gun" crowd.

Who has ignored or disagreed with those?

I haven't seen that.

For those of you who won't even consider revisiting gun laws in order to TRY to provide more safety to our citizens, you are, IMO, okay with these slaughters as long as you get to keep all your guns. It's pitiful and disgusting.

Your disgust and pity are leveled at the wrong target.

A few elementary school kids and a few churchgoers and a few gay clubbers and a few college students and a few child-care workers and a few moviegoers is a small price to pay. Just as long as most of them are persons of color from the big city.

Apparently this is a true statement regarding those who keep suggesting solutions that fail to correctly identify the problem and find a solution that addresses it. They are ready to enact more laws that do not address the problem. BTW, people of color were the ones killed at Sandy Hook and Columbine?

Okay, I can't read through this whole thread that is like so many others :banghead:. The problem is moral and spiritual. Therefore, the solution is not legislation. I am not saying the government has no role to play. I would say it has a limited role to play, first, stop with policies that tend to decimate families and destroy the nuclear family. Stop being the Nanny state that tries to substitute for people's responsibility for themselves and for the people around them. Beyond that, get out of the way of people who can influence the moral and spiritual lives of young people, communities, and society as a whole.

Ask why the family has broken down? What was it that brought about its demise since the 60's? Why are people angry enough or hateful enough to kill another human being? Why do young people gravitate towards gangs and then shoot at kids in other gangs? Is it true that people of color are most often the victims and if so, who are the shooters? Why is that? Lots of questions need to be asked to get to the issues that lead to the violence. You can't solve the problem of violent crime and murder without that, unless you want a police state. I suppose the USSR could crack down on crime and violence (not counting the violence it used to crack down on its own citizens).

More gun legislation is a quick fix (that won't work) to a complex problem that has its roots in things that have nothing to do with guns!

That's quite a mendacious comment.

Do you expect anything else from UK? He's consistently done this.
