June 27, 201610 yr Did anybody watch the game on TV Sunday? During one of Vottos at bats they made a comment that they talked to him before the game and he said he was working on pulling the ball more. (I can understand that.) However during that at bat the Padres had 4 infielders on the right side of the infield, and what does Votto do, pulls it right. So what is he doing working on hitting the ball where they are? Reason for posting this is who on the coaching staff thought this was a good idea? If that is the staff working with the "talent" of the future the Reds are in trouble. This rebuild wont be done till 2046.

I'm sure there's plenty of high school threads you can keep yourself busy with. No, just trying to be realistic. I spent my era of being a Reds fan, and fortunately for me it was a really good one. I still watch the present day club at every opportunity because I like baseball. My point is dismantling a ball club (perhaps decimating it is a better word) and then expecting it to be rebuilt into a contender in two years is ludicrous. You young guys out there who believe in the eventual evolution of Cincinnati's sports teams into World Champions need remind yourselves that you are living in the 33rd or 34th largest media market in the United States, and should be grateful that we even have MLB and NFL franchises. I hold the Cincinnati media directly responsible for this sense of frustration that we have with our major league sports teams. They inflate the balloon beyond reasonable expectations causing this let-down feeling when our teams prove incapable of meeting those expectations. I hope for your sakes that they do someday win a Super Bowl or World Championship, but the game has changed dramatically since the 70s through the 90s and the deck appears to be stacked against them.

I just don't see the impact position players required to really contend in 2 years. Besides that the Cubs are extremely young and have to resources to only add to their talent level. The Cards have the resources, and more importantly the management, to reload. I just don't see the Reds overtaking either club within 2 seasons.

I think that's the target date to being competitive again. I don't think anyone really feels they'll become WS contenders that soon.
June 30, 201610 yr Since it's related to the rebuild, I figure this is the best place for it.... Despite struggling the last 2 weeks, Nick Senzel has been promoted from Billings (Rookie ball) to Dayton (A). Edit: Sounds like 2nd rd pick Chris Okey was promoted as well.
June 30, 201610 yr RHP Tyler Mahle continues to impress as he climbs up the Reds organization. He was 8-3 in 13 starts for High A Daytona with a 2.72 ERA in 79 innings with 76 K's and only 17 BB. In 2 starts for AA Pensacola so far he is 2-0 with a 2.70 ERA. In 10 innings he has 16 K's and 4 BB's.
June 30, 201610 yr Closer, Jimmy Herget picked up 2 more saves for Daytona in Clearwater, Monday and Tuesday night. Jimmy is 14 of 14 in save opportunities with a 0.87 WHIP and 1.35 ERA.
July 1, 201610 yr No way this team contends in 2018. The young pitchers have not improved this year and may be worse overall. But if you saw the full page ad the Pensacola team placed in the Enquirer there is a lot of hitting and pitching talent on that team. 2020 might be the year the Reds begin to contend with that talent pool and the high draft picks that will happen in the 5 year span prior to 2020. In will likely get darker in 2017 as whatever value the Reds have now is traded off. Whatever record this team ends up with this year 62-100, 60-102, 55-107......it could be worse next year. But hopefully better after that.

In 2018 we could be looking at a lineup of: CF - Billy Hamilton 3B - Nick Senzel 1B - Joey Votto RF - Adam Duvall SS - Eugenio Suarez LF - Jesse Winker 2B - Jose Peraza C - Tucker Barnhart and a rotation of some combination of: RHP - Anthony DeSclafani LHP - Amir Garrett LHP - Cody Reed RHP - Robert Stephenson RHP - Tyler Mahle LHP - Brandon Finnegan RHP - Rookie Davis and a bullpen centered around Tony Cingrani Michael Lorenzen Raisel Iglesias Now will that be good enough to compete? I don't know, a lot depends on just how well some of the young bats (Senzel, Peraza, Winker, Okey, Stephenson, etc) develop, but it sure looks a lot closer than what they have currently IMO.

Admittedly, I don't know much about him (except he is having some shoulder issues). I was glad to see Peraza getting the start at SS yesterday. Also, I think Homer Bailey is still on the books for 2018. It's possible he may still be on the squad although I don't know if he's in the long-term plans here.

I think Herrera is very talented, and he'll probably be there, assuming he's healthy (Probably in place of Suarez if I had to guess). Was a coin-flip between those two for me. Bailey is still on the books, I just think it's more likely than not that they move him before then.
August 23, 201610 yr The Reds are 7th out of 15 NL teams in the runs scored with this current roster. 16 out of 30 in MLB. 14 out of 15 in ERA in NL. One of these guys need to develop into an ace. I'm not sure there is a true ace in the group.
