June 15, 201610 yr The Reds are making decisions now with an eye towards being a contender in 2018. Who will be here and who should not be here in 2018 if the Reds are going to compete for a title? What is their contract status going to be in 2018 and how long will that 2018 be able to stay together? Let's use this thread to talk about lineups, pitching rotations and how moves being made this season will impact 2018 through 2021.
June 15, 201610 yr A quick, off the top of my head rundown.... C - Tucker Barnhart/Chris Okey....Tyler Stephenson probably still a couple years away. 1B - Votto 2B - Peraza SS - ?? 3B - Senzel LF - Winker CF - ?? Maybe Billy, but who knows. RF - ?? SP - Stephenson SP - Reed SP - Iglesias SP - Garrett SP - Disco Other options: Lamb, Travieso, Mella, Rookie Davis, Finnegan Bullpen: Finnegan, Lorenzen (closer), Zach Weiss, Cingrani?
June 15, 201610 yr I've felt good about our young pitchers, but it looks great when you list them all out. That said, if Disco is the number 5 starter in two years barring any injuries, I would think they would have no problem contending. Another possibility is Kyle Skipworth. It's a shame he's hurt. As a former number 6 overall pick I would love to see if he could put it all together. Also, I am unfamiliar with his contract, but I wonder if Meso will be here and if so what his position will be. In my mind I have pretty much written him off, so anything he brings to the table in the future would be great

So you are assuming they trade Bailey? Do you think Duvall is just a one year wonder?
June 21, 201610 yr So you are assuming they trade Bailey? Do you think Duvall is just a one year wonder? I think they're going to do everything in their power to get out from under Bailey's contract as soon as possible. As far as Duvall goes, I'm not sold. The guy can hit it a long way, but his OBP is beyond atrocious and he's going to be 28 in September.
June 22, 201610 yr Pitchers and Free Agency dates: Iglesias - 2022 Lorenzen - 2022 Finnegan - 2022 Lamb - 2022 Reed - 2023 Stephenson - 2023 Desclafani - 2021 Garrett - 6 seasons from ML debut Cingrani - 2020

Great problem to have, but a problem nonetheless. Can't you basically deduct 3 yrs from all of the above and get their arbitration eligible deadline?
June 23, 201610 yr Yeah, but if they end up being studs early, arbitration years could price them out of Cincinnati well before FA. Great problem to have, but a problem nonetheless. Can't you basically deduct 3 yrs from all of the above and get their arbitration eligible deadline? That's not going to be an issue. They might not be able to sign them long term but they could figure out a way to sign them in arbitration for a one or two year large sum. It's not like an 8 year contract at $25M Per year. They would have to reach Kershaw levels of success. Yes to the second point.
