Is Highlands' interpretation of the transfer rule correct?

Featured Replies

Yes they did and the parents moved and the reason I know that is because they lived next door to a friend of mine.

If your point is feeling sorry for the kids that were there when a transfer comes in, what's it matter if they moved or not?? They still transferred and took playing time from the kids that have been there. Just like the girls did last year. A transfer is a transfer. I have no problem with either situation on the NCC side. Just don't play the "poor kids" scenario when you're throwing rocks from a glass house. And if you don't think the big girl had any kind of impact on last year's season, you are crazy. Without her in the middle, they would have been a much different team and easier to guard defensively.

who cares why a kid moves school. Why is everyone out to punish the kid? If she wants to move and sports are important to her, why would you not want to see her play. I think parents and kids have those rights to be in the best situation for their kid and family. Maybe she was bullied, maybe she was unhappy, maybe there is something even more personal there, I hope she thrives at HHS and enjoys her last year. Remember wants to win but not at the expense of sitting kids for a whole year.

Yes I did feel sorry for those boys and didn't agree with it, again reread my threads I said I don't mind the transfers if its done correctly. Jenna is a great girl and I love the way she plays so its nothing against her. You said there was a reason she transferred her SENIOR year and I agree but come on you have to admit it was for basketball and if so that's fine just don't try to justify it another way, just like going to ND she went there for basketball.

She did not move to Kenton county to go to ND. She moved, but it wasn't to Kenton co.

I said the reason wasn't entirely for Bball and I know that's true. You can speculate all you want. What you're missing is there had to be a reason to leave before you even think about transferring. There was a reason she wasn't happy at ND. And it wasn't just the coach leaving. Once you decide you're leaving, then you decide where you're going. If it were entirely for Bball, I don't think it would have been HHS this year. And again, I know her decision to leave AND choose HHS was NOT entirely to do with Bball.

That wasn't intentional!! Lol

It is not the poor kids scenario although I feel for them. Glad you know so much about all teams and you saw NCC play how many times?

Do you think she leaves ND if the coach is still there?

Well I feel for the girls at HHS who has gone through the program and now will have a lot of minutes taken away from them.

Listen I lived it 1st hand. A tuition Student took every chance I had from getting on the Field. It's life! You eventually get over it.....If anything it teaches you about some Life lessons and maybe makes you a better person in Life. I would say to the parents & kids that if you don't like it....."Get Better"

Trust me, my daughter & I have had long conversations about the What If. What if a kid moves in and she's the better Player? It just means that maybe you have to work a little harder. And guess what, my daughter works her tail off for every opportunity. The Softball season for us ended last Friday in Owensboro. Instead of taking some time off, she was in Lawrenceburg this morning Hitting to get better.

If my kid isn't the best option then please don't play her. You are doing the Child and the team a Dis-service when there is a better option.

I find the bona fide address discussion interesting. As has been mentioned you have regular movement of players between Newport Holy Cross and Holmes. A couple cases that might be very similar to Jenna Martin's move come to mind.

One similar case might be Burt Pouncy, the Ludlow QB, who changed over to play football at Holy Cross. He missed several football games waiting on the KHSAA to rule but was eventually made eligible.

The other one that I think might be the very same situation as Martin's is the move of Moeves from Walton-Verona to Newport Catholic. I seem to recall they purchased a new house that was still in Boone County, perhaps even still in Walton but were allowed to transfer to NCC.

Finally, I believe the KHSAA should publicize their decisions in as much detail as possible without violating privacy. That would be a service to all schools and students to help provide clarity and understanding of how the rules are being interpreted

Wrong.........bought a house in Campbell Co. out by NKU.

The Original DLG dated the older Moeves, and she would not have driven to Walton to see him. :lol2:

Saw them at least twice, but talk to several coaches regularly and discuss game plans. Yea, I'm a dork that way when it comes to Bball. It's one of my passions. I have many friends that are coaches and I love to pick their brains on how they approach teams and personell.

Are you saying you don't gameplan differently with her off the floor last year? With her out of the game, there was no inside threat or any reason not to turn your attention to Davenport. You had to guard her when she was in the game. And you had to worry about boxing her out. That tied one big down solely. Which means helping on Davenport was not possible with the big. With her out of the lineup, the big is free to roam and keep an eye on Davenport. So yes, big difference when she was on the floor.

Davenport. Didn't she come from Brossart territory?! Not a transfer but still, she took playing time away from someone who came up through an NCC feeder school. (just funning!)

Thanks for the correction.

Let me get this straight coaches offer up there game plans to you that's interesting.

Well a lot of Biggs were able to roam because she was in foul trouble in just about every game so Davenport was still able to get her points.

She did have some impact not denying that but not as much as you think.
