They need to do things the right way with the coaching staff. They should have the two head coaches and the rest be assistants from staff's. Way to many head coaches on each staff which brings to many ego's into the mix. I saw 4 different head coaches at each others throats last night for no reason. If coaches can't keep control of their emotions how can they expect the players too???

It gets chippy because one team chooses to play by the rules laid out for the game and another pushes the envelope with no repercussion. I saw a blatant facemask not called and saw on more than one occasion where a defender pushed an offensive player in clear view of the officials and nothing was done.

 

The best way to handle all of this stuff is your team gets one warning and after that the kids are shown the sidelines where they can watch the remainder of the game.

 

The game itself is honestly pretty boring because the kids are in not in football shape. The coaches also have to do a better job of determining the kids that play in the game. An all star game loses a lot of luster when one team is forced to play a kid at QB that simply is far more productive as either a WR or RB. Another team sends 5 guys to the game and 3 of them cannot play due to injury. Have no problem including those kids because they honestly deserved the recognition, but 3 replacements should have been added if for no other reason than to add depth.

 

Game was very well promoted, but in the future I would suggest that someone realize that fans are there to watch the kids play football and not to watch some of the other shenanigans that went on.

Agree. I saw the same stuff. Watching the kid come in for the East and try to throw a football was brutal and not fair to the kid at all. But it was a great night and the game became really exciting in the 4th quarter so it was worth it. This all-star game generated tons of interest and seems to have garnered its swag back due to the awesome sponsorships and promoters. Well put together !

When I played in this game, the coaches were a school's entire staff. Fortunately for me, my HC was picked to coach it so we had our entire staff, no other coaches. Should probably go back to that.

....which is why they should simply stop playing this game. Too many people take it for more than it is, and instead of a "showcase", it becomes more. Further, it's on the coaches to see to it that the game is played the right way. If they can't, get 'em the hell off the field.

However for many kids it's their last game ever playing and it's a chance to play with guys they have gone against throughout high school. It's nice seeing players come together and play with emotion like these guys do. I believe they practice together for a little bit more than a week and yet players come together who don't even know each other well and try to go out and win still and play hard with the guys on their team.

 

So while some of the extra stuff needs to be cleaned up a bit. This is still a great game for the kids and fun to watch. Much better than the pro bowl where they don't even tackle each other.

This is the same type of stuff I used to see in pee wee football. One side plays within the rules and the other sees what they can get by with. Pretty bush move if you ask me and to be honest it is what got everything heated up from that point forward.

 

Also a nice job by Trosper to onside kick in an all star game when up by more than 3 scores. Have some class coach and remember it is about the kids and not pumping your ego.

I understand that each school nominates 5 kids to play in the game and I say for each one that either chooses to not participate or is injured then a replacement needs to be named, much like the professional all star games. Just really lucky that no one got seriously injured under the circumstances.

When you have all that talent on the field, egos will clash, things will get a bit chippy. Yeah, sometimes it gets a little out of hand, but some of that intensity is what makes the game great for these players.

 

I don't think they should change much, but here are a few suggestions

 

1. No rush on the field goal/XP attempts: let the kickers shine too, which also means

2. No fake field goals/XPs: if they can't rush, neither can you

3. No empty offensive formations: must have an RB in the backfield

4. No DB blitzes: just linebackers

And some folks were concerned this was going to follow the nfl 2 hand touch model...heard this was more of a knock down drag out. Congrats to all the participants and continued success at the next level who are!
