ESPN discussing "colorism" concerning Steph Curry?

Featured Replies

I've heard "High-Yella" used as a derogatory many times between black folks. As someone born of immigrant scum, I wisely figured it wasn't my argument to get into.

I remember hearing about this ages ago. As Clyde said, it is quite old. During the 1920's, 30's, and 40's supposedly a brown paper bag was used to discriminate skin tone. Those African-Americans who were lighter than a brown paper bag were allowed in certain clubs and others were not. At least this is how I remember the story.

The Brown Paper Bag Test

How many dark skinned dudes would get away with staring down an opponents bench while a soon to me made three is still in the air? How about a Crip Walk on an opponents court after hitting a game winner? The dude is constantly trash talking and showing up opponents, yet he's seen as the cute and lovable underdog who just happened to grow up the son of a former NBA star.

You guys are right. I'm sure his skin tone and perception that he's "white" has nothing to do with it. Carry on...

So your saying he gets away with it because of his skin tone ? I've heard everything now.

I feel like we are talking about two different things in this thread. Gametime thinks white people give Steph a pass because he's light skinned. Others are talking about the actual story and that's inside the black community there is a Friction between dark and light skinned.

Which seemed real from the movies growing up. But the people I grew up with it I never thought was a thing.

It does seem like a silly topic to talk about on ESPN but I don't care either way.

I'm saying he gets a pass for a LOT of arrogance (and I LOVE every second of it). I also said it had nothing to do with his skin tone and perception. Carry on... :thumb:

Why was it a story in the black community since they arrived off the slave boat? Maybe the darker the skin, the more SLAVERY you had to endure. Probably not, though. Just a black thing. Couldn't be real if you didn't experience it. My bad...

I always wondered why they call Obama our first black president instead of our 44th white president? If he is 50/50 he would be mixed? Why is he referred to as black? Is he not white?

Definitely one of the cockiest players in the game, and I love it too.

Social norm:

Black person + White person= Black baby

I love arrogant players who talk trash and rub it in your face. I'll never hate a player because he is arrogant. I'll hate them for other petty reasons.

Looking at you MJ and Wade. And all Spurs.

Don't humans multiply? Therefore, the equation should be Black person x White person= Black baby. But maybe I'm getting a bit off topic here.

Got a few of those that's what it says on their birth certificate.

Like going to Duke? ;)
