Malik Newman Withdraws From NBA Draft; Looking to Transfer

Featured Replies

Of course my biased will show through, but wonder what could have been for this young man had he chosen UK over Miss State.

Everyone mentions Ben Simmons as an example of why one and done players should pick schools like UK, Duke, and Kansas. However, Malik Newman might be an even bigger example.

Worked out for the Cats because we probably don't get Murray had they landed Newman.

Maybe he should be one of the poster boys UK has on why you dont go to a third world country college like that when you can go to a developed nation.

Now it's being reported that he has to transfer, because he didn't go to class because he was so sure he was a one & done. :lol2:

Even funnier is what was said at the recruiting visit.

Instead, the top-ranked guard's choice to stay in state boiled down to several factors, most notably MSU's hiring of Ben Howland.

Howland's pedigree of putting 18 former players into the NBA intrigued Newman at a time when the Bulldogs were seemingly out of the Newman sweepstakes.

Howland preached how he could help Newman reach his goal during his first in-home visit on March 26, which grabbed the guard's attention.

Now there is an endorsement for Miss St. hahahahahahahaha

He'd have to sit out anywhere in D1. If he goes D2 or NAIA he probably wouldn't be eligible. Would a move to Europe/Asia be the best move for Newman?

Probably. Sounds better than JUCO.

Good move for him. Self should get him lined out. KU put Ben Mclemore in a position to make the most out of his red shirt year and I have a feeling Newman should benefit as well.

Here's what I keep wondering about this.

The guy got picked first in the draft. How much higher could he have gone?

Not really sure.

But my post you quoted was about Malik Newman. And I think my post will be even more accurate when he becomes a first round pick after one year playing for Kansas.

I hope he is a cancer to the Kansas program.

He was best in what appears to be a weak draft class. There's a fair argument to be made that he stunted his development by going to a low-rent program and it could cost him years and dollars in his career.

I wonder if there's any chance he becomes a first round pick after just one year of being at Kansas. He can always test the waters and then come back, unlike in the past.

Doubt it, but I would believe it would depend on his performance for the following season.
