Malik Newman Withdraws From NBA Draft; Looking to Transfer

Featured Replies

He was best in what appears to be a weak draft class. There's a fair argument to be made that he stunted his development by going to a low-rent program and it could cost him years and dollars in his career.

He Jim, you could look at it from a different sport, did Tim Couch going to UK versus UT cause him to be such a disappointment in the NFL or was that inevitable regardless to where he went? I have no idea and could probably be argued either direction.

Never really thought about it considering Couch played in a college system that suited his talents (excepting Bill Curry trying to have Couch run the triple option).

I suppose him going into a Tennessee system that had Peyton pass through wouldn't have hurt, but it's hard to say it would have helped his pro situation ultimately with the Browns at that time.

Perhaps his best thing was to not be a No. 1 pick and go to Cleveland.
