Well, I'm not in favor of land mines, so I guess if that puts my in the camp of promoting "unsecure" borders, so be it.

Dead children would be "troubling" to me.

When its YOUR child being killed, objections to murder subside.

This. Further, I'm not in favor of dead people period.

Hey - that's just collateral damage.

Really? Most Americans are killed by fellow American Citizens. I call bunk on this hyperbole.

This nonsense about land mines just muddies up the waters. Nothing of the sort will ever be done so why talk about it. It's not that hard folks if you are going to build a wall. Build TWO walls a football field apart. With today's technology (sensors on the wall) or with border agents monitoring by camera, when someone gets over the first wall, there will be plenty of time to catch them before they get over the second one. Put very sharp barbed wire on the top of both to make it even more difficult. It is not that hard if we really want to keep illegals out from Mexico.

The issue is that right now the Dems want as many illegals in as possible (future voters) and the R's talk a good game but do NOTHING to stop it because they have donors who want the cheap labor. Who gets hurt? US workers and the border states who are absolutely inundated with illegal immigrants taking jobs and flooding schools and hospitals. Trump is the ONLY politician in the last 30 years who will actually tackle the problem. The Dems are fine breaking all kinds of laws on the books hoping to get new voters and the R's say they want to be tough on illegal immigration but have desire to (just lying to the voters).

Both parties have been incredibly dishonest regarding the border...hence a guy like Trump who actually seems to be for helping American workers instead of donors has attracted a big following.

So, the plan is to only secure the southern border, but not the border with Canada?

BTW, I am a democrat and I am not "wanting" illegal immigrants so that they add to the democratic voting base. I am for treating all people like humans, that includes illegal immigrants.

Many have spoken that there needs to be a plan to stem illegal immigration. The point in contention is what to do about illegal immigrants already in the country. Some see those as 2 different issues, so there's not much to discuss, because we all agree something needs to happen.

And...you won't be open to an actual discussion of ideas, so it's not likely anyone is going to engage in your proposed topic, given the way you've phrased it.

Gee, not open to discussion of ideas? Glad you're a mind reader now RM. Seems you may be the closed minded one.

When I see snide comments about if there is a 30 foot wall, there will be a huge need for 35 foot ladders, I see that as a non-starter on actual discussion.

As far as the way I have phrased it, I can separate the issue of illegal immigration and the illegals that are already here. I don't think I am the one with the problem distinguishing the two.

Very well said. I agree with everything.

You work on the border that is the problem. Our northern border is not a problem at this time. Ever wonder why Mexico has a very strong southern border and very porous northern border?

Fine. However, that just negates the whole "let's keep terrorists out" mantra as a reason to build it. I've heard that on here, but not sure from who.

I am for treating people like human beings too. Is sending someone back who came in illegally somehow wrong and inhumane? Is trying to stop people from coming in illegally inhumane? If you think so, we just disagree. I think it is just common sense.

BTW, I don't blame the Mexicans for wanting to come here. Most want to make a better life for themselves. I blame our leaders (actually calling them leaders is a disservice to real leaders) for letting them.

I think it would be very wrong to send back those that came here as children and have only ever known life in the US. I do think that is inhumane. I've also seen and heard many say terrible things about illegal immigrants. These are people that somehow consider themselves to be Christians and it just boggles my mind.

You will find I am wide open to discussing a wide range of topics, and willing to consider other viewpoints. But I don't engage in "conversation" when the call to do so is phrased with a dead end statement.

You are welcome to think what you like of me. I don't give two figs what your opinion of me may be. I am 100% secure in my beliefs, and the way I choose to live my life. If at the end of the day I'm stricken to death by an illegal terrorist immigrant while walking down the street unarmed; or assaulted by a transgender in a restroom; I will go to my grave knowing I lived my life as openly and accepting of all others as I possibly could. It's all I can do. And we each must decide for ourselves how we will live and what we will believe.

Yeah I'm not in favor of that either...for what it's worth I don't think that would EVER happen, nor should it.

I have no problem with a wall, fence, trench or some other physical barrier. I also have no problem with doing as other countries do and incarcerating anyone caught violating our border. Now there is no incentive to quit trying, if they get caught they get a ride back to the border and they can try again the same day if they want.

Parents who are here illegally are more than welcome to take their children back with them to their countries of origin. That applies also to parents of anchor babies.

I pray that neither ever happens to you or anyone for that matter.
