The difference I see between liberals and conservative with regard to government aid programs is that most conservative have no issues helping those that truly need it but want tougher enforcement of misuse of those programs. MOST liberals want no further enforcement of aid program rules because a deserving recipient MAY be harmed.

I don't think any Liberal is ok with people jobbing the system, or not enforcing rules. I think the difference between the two sides is that conservatives believe a large portion of those receiving aid are either receiving aid because they are lazy or are bending rules in order to receive the aid. Liberals believe that while some fit into those categories, the majority of those receiving aid are good hard working people that for whatever reason have found themselves in a tough spot.

I speak from my own life experiences and social circle , and the benefit of knowing who has medicaid and who doesnt . Maybe that makes me have a jaded vision of things ?? I've filled Rx's for a retired armed forces Medical Doctor whose wife was a RN , that sent their kids to private school with mine , that lived in a upper class neighborhood for free on medicaid . I've seen people not able to afford their co pays . I've seen DECADES of people whose responses when ask " Do you need ____ prescription filled " ? and the answer be " whatever I dont pay for it " So yeah , my view is different than some folks . As stated above I'm not for pulling help from everyone , thats political hyperbole that the left throws towards everyone on the right . It's terribly insulting but part of politics and political discussions in todays world . As far as enforcement ? is there any ?

There is enforcement but I don't know that the cost to monitor doesn't exceed the cost of the fraud. Kind of like the IRS. They could audit everyone and assure that no one is cheating on their returns but that would cost much more than they would collect.

Looks like that number has held pretty steady for many years. Bound to happen with an aging population.

There seems like there should be more details in that number. Like how many are retired, disabled etc. I guess I'm also not sure what your point is. Are you trying to say that 20% of the country is just lazy and refuse to work? Which really isn't true, as the article even mentions that retired families are part of that 20%. It also points out that the number has stayed steady since 1995, which is when they first started tracking the stat. So there really isn't much historical data to even compare.

 

What should this number be?? Is it even possible to have close to 100%??

 

Because of the vagueness, and lack of historical comparison, I'm finding it hard to worry about the findings of this "study". It's another headline, with a stat, that's designed to make people angry.

Sorry, but that's the common argument. Too many people, waiting on the handout, too lazy to work. It would seem that was the direction you were heading. Since I took your point incorrectly, what point were you trying to make by posting the link??
