Mitt Romney was correct.

The Left tries to make anyone pointing this out to be the devil.

Time to quit giving to the ones who are illegal and who can actually work, but sit home because the government make working class people take care of them.

He really was right. If you pay no taxes, why would you care what the tax rate is? We are heading to a point where over 50% of the country will pay no taxes. That is a scary thought.

This is not "true." This is similar to the Romney 47 percent thing and it was not true then either. Most of these people "who are not paying any taxes" are having the taxes deducted from their paychecks. But they count as not "paying tax" and comprise most of that 47, or 45 percent number.

Less than 8 percent of Americans pay no federal taxes at all, and almost all of those are the elderly.

Those people also get refunds back at the end of the year that are more than what they paid in during the year, making money off the government by not making money.

The topic is federal income taxes, the 45% number is legit.

Just to clarify.

If I've got a couple of kids in college and I'm retired and take those education credits and wind up paying a net zero, do I pay taxes or not?

So, am I part of that lazy, shiftless 45 percent?

Don't know but you're part of the 45%. How many are lazy and shiftless is indeterminable without further analysis.

Just making sure. I often get the feeling by reading this stuff that I'm illegal or lazy or "making money off the government" or a fool.

You say that is the "topic" and certainly made sure to try to get it back on topic. But all these other posts, talking about people not working, and not paying any taxes, they don't get directed back to getting "on topic."

That's because the topic is really just bashing low income people, and telling falsehoods about them, such as they don't work, and don't pay taxes. That's the topic, and it has been a favorite topic of the republican party for a long time.
