April 14, 201610 yr In addition, MJ was beated by two of the best teams of all-time in the playoffs in the 80s Celtics and the late 80s Bad Boys. What teams did Kobe beat that were comparable in his prime? The Spurs(2004) and the Celtics(2011). What does that have to do with anything though? MJ had Pippen and Phil Jackson in his prime. The Celtics were never good again after 88 and you already said MJ's first few seasons on horrible teams don't count. Who was Kobe's Pippen in his prime? What wingman equivalent to Pippen was he given to play with? MJ won with complete teams put together to win titles. MJ had Pippen, Grant, Harper, Rodman, Kukoc, Kerr, Armstrong....he had players. Kobe was given Smush Parker and Samaki Walker. :lol2:
April 14, 201610 yr Never omitted those championships. But the fact remains if you listed the top 10 players of all-time (by popular opinion), Kobe had the strangest prime in terms of team success (outside of maybe the Big O). Hard to say he didn't have talent, when his inability to coexist with the 2nd or 3rd best player of his generation cost him the ability to win an additional 2-3 championships. Why did he have to play with Smush Parker? Because, he wanted to prove he could win without Shaq. Kobe has admitted his ego led him to want Shaq out, has he not? The Lakers chose right, but Kobe lost 2-3 chances at rings because of it. Instead of 5 he might have 7 or 8 right now. That would completely change the narrative of Kobe. Right or wrong, many might view him as better than MJ if he had 7 titles. Eventually, the Lakers would have been viewed as his team, especially as Shaq got older. It happened to Kareem with Magic, and Shaq would have had the same thing. And let's not forget Kobe isn't a part of the SuperFriends era. Lebron created that. Kobe came from the era where teams were built from the draft and the occasional trade not from free agents all running to jump on the same team. He and the Spurs are the last of that era. Dudes used to go to teams as a free agent to make their mark not to play house wth their buddies.

Any team without LeBron?
April 14, 201610 yr Dubs? Almost forgot about them. Pays to have Jerry West running things for you. Sigh.......damn Laker front office.

All I'm saying is Kobe is the last person to get to cry about not having teammates. And let's not forget Kobe isn't a part of the SuperFriends era. Lebron created that. LeBron's escape to Miami, will be an equal or greater blackmark on his legacy than Kobe's lost years IMO, if we're going to discuss it.

Telling the truth about his situation is crying now? Okay. No it won't. I don't believe that will hurt his legacy but I'm not the kind of person who buys into tearing down the greatest players by any means necessary. You're either great or you aren't and it kills me when people look for the silliest of reasons to deny the greatness some of the greatest players to ever play the game. I don't get it. Kobe's down years in his prime consisted of the team still going to the playoffs all seasons except for one and Lebron changed the free agency game but has still been to how many NBA Finals in a row now how many times but their legacies are tainted? Not in my world they aren't. Not even slightly.
April 14, 201610 yr It's like all of the people who say Steph isn't as good as he is because the game has changed and he couldn't do that in the 80s. That's hogwash. Steph is doing things we have never seen before but his greatness and legacy will be doubted just like everyone else's is these days. I just don't get it.
April 14, 201610 yr Kobe was given Smush Parker and Samaki Walker. :lol2: C'mon now...Kobe had Gary "The Glove" Payton and Karl Malone and couldn't get it done. Doesn't matter that they played with canes and wheelchairs lol.

April 14, 201610 yr Elgin Baylor doesn't take a backseat to any Laker that ever laced up a pair of sneakers.
