I have no idea, I doubt it. The old guard would want him and they will win a brokered convention. Someone told me Limbaugh said don't be surprised if it is Bush and I heard he supports Cruz.

The Grand Old Party has created this entire fiasco by shoving it's 20th Century ideals into the 21st Century. As old fashioned and set in my ways as I am, this party needs an engine overhaul because they just cracked the block.

Few negatives. Respected by all. Smart. Independents and moderates would be open to voting for him.

If no one reaches the magic number then...

 

It's passed the point of no return for Trump to strike out on an independent run. It's possible he can run a write-in campaign, and maybe his supporters are passionate enough to follow through, but that's a tough row.

 

The party will do everything it can to get this settled before the actual convention. I imagine they will bang together a consensus among the delegates before the convention, then can swiftly cast the votes after gavelling in to avoid a week of primetime television being dedicated to their dysfunction.

 

Ted Cruz will be the nominee. It appears the actual individuals being appointed as delegates are largely Cruz backers. The party also seems to be getting behind him to stop Trump. Once the delegates are freed up I don't see another candidate getting a majority.

 

In a season that has defied all wisdom on campaigns and politics there's plenty of opportunity for more craziness, but those are my best guesses.

He's an "establishment" guy who maintains the minimum amount of credibility with the Tea Party faction to hold the party together in that chamber. Which I think is what Bipsic is getting at: His credibility with the Tea Party comes from the rather extreme nature of his economic proposals, which would likely not be a great selling point to moderates and independents.

I hope Trump gets the nomination for the simple fact it will be fun watching him get to Hillary in ways no one else has the gumption to do. Those two will look like a couple WWE wrestlers after their debates. Must see TV.

I agree. It will be much much more entertaining than RAW is these days. I can't wait to see what kind of things Trump comes up with to throw at his old friend, Hillary. He kept me laughing with "Little Marco" and "Lyin'Ted." Trump- Hillary debates won't put anyone in mind of Lincoln-Douglas but they will be some kind of fun to watch.

I'd put my money on Cruz winning the nomination on the third ballot. Some states require delegates to vote for leading vote-getter in first two rounds, not just first round.

 

Don't forget that convention rules can be changed prior to arrival of delegates. The rules in place now may not be the rules in place on July 18. Hence, I don't think the convention will be as wild as some predict. The "deny-Trump" scenario should be fully known before July 18.
