I feel sorry for Campbell County, Paris, and Augusta. After hearing tonight from some of Mason County's own fans the backstory to the ongoing saga, the 10th Region should look to impose a postseason ban on the Royals next season. This game wasn't even interesting unless you were a Taylor County fan. Campbell, Paris, or Augusta should have been the 10th Region representative. Very sad situation.

 

What 1 player does shouldn't ruin this for the team. The incident happened after the games against Campbell, Paris, and Augusta. Pig has taken the consequences of this incident just as he should. Like a gentleman. No complaining.. He knows what he did was wrong and I'm sure he'd do anything to go back and change the outcome. He's better than that and he isn't what this mistake makes him out to be. Pigs a well rounded young man. There's no reason to ban a whole team, who won't even be carrying 4 of the 8 players who got in this season and were key members of the team shouldn't be banned from the postseason. That's an awful idea if you ask me.

These bylaws pertain to athletic compliance. I've never heard of the khsaa telling a member school how to handle discipline outside of the sport in the academic setting.

 

Other than a bad look for the Mason administrators and superintendent there's nothing anyone can do. The tax payers would need to go to school board meetings and demand change.

 

As far as Augusta, Paris and Campbell, they lost to the better team. Mason was not playing with an ineligible player per their school rules.

I'm not a Mason County person, so I have no dog in this fight. The Mason County folks I spoke with were very apologetic for the way a lot of things have been handled internally for a while. It's up to the superintendents, principals, and athletic directors of Augusta, Paris and Campbell to address this with the 10th Region Board. Suffice it to say I would imagine Julian Tackett and the KHSAA will at least peek at what is being tossed out there. If I were a fan of Paris, Campbell, Augusta, I would want Mason County banned from district and regional play at least next year. No excuses.

Unless everyone is saying coaches and administrators knowingly let a player or players play when they shouldn't have, I can't see where khsaa would get involved.

I am a 10th Region fan and supporter of one of the Royal's competitors, and speak only the opinion of Oldercoach and no one else. I have always respected Chris O'Hearn and Buddy Biggs and have the utmost confidence in them as men of integrity. We probably will never know the extent of the issues, but their attempts to discipline and set a model program the players and fans will be proud of is very obvious. Had their motives only been to win, this latest issue could have been easily deferred handling until after Rupp. They did the hard thing, the right thing, and demonstrated the standards the program will be operated. They won the trip to Rupp on the court. Internal discipline is a school based action, and no one outside has a right to cry foul.

 

Biggs, O'Hearn, and the Royals are the entities that suffered at the misquided hands of one unthinkingly selfish youth. Disappointment has spread throughout the 10th. I pray all our youth will learn that actions create reactions 100% of the time; may our's always be those that make us proud as we view them through our rearview mirrors.

This makes since to vote to have it somewhere else and costs yourself thousands of dollars again. Schools lost thousands this year. How you tie Pig's stupid decision to where the region is held is mind boggling. Pig is not the only player to be suspended in the tenth this year. We played Paris this year and Garrard was suspended and it was hardly mentioned. By if a Mason player gets suspended on the biggest stage, we should get the death penalty. We could have the region at Clark's new gym,,,oh wait, they don't have one. I am proud of Mason County and what they have accomplished. Does one mistake over look all of the great players we have produced. Have people forgot about Lyons, Lofton, Miller, Settys, Grutza and many many more. We must be doing something right because the hatred for Mason County by many people is just unbelievable. Mason will have a team next year and we will be pretty good. So all of you other schools, just show up and try to beat us like many could not do this year. Most regions would be proud of a team in their region that has two state championships and is a contender every year. But not the tenth region an their fans. Some of these poster are ridiculous over one kid that made the mistake of his life thus far. WOW!!!!

Maybe if the Mason County administrators and coaches had followed their own guidelines regarding discipline earlier, Pig Williams would not have even played in the district, much less the regional. This comes from Mason County's own fans this week. If the people governing Mason County's own rules can't enforce their own standards, simply to win games, that's a problem the 10th Region needs to look at. It sounds like the only reason Williams was dealt with right before the state tourney was because the "wrong" people would not look the other way. Some of the Mason County people appear to be good people who are outraged by the administration. We will find out if Campbell, Paris, and Augusta's administrators decide to press this issue about a post season ban.

I was attending the state tournament and talked with Mason County fans about the incident(s) before the game. I had no idea of what caused it and wanted to know. The Mason fans I spoke with were very embarrassed by the administration's handling of many things in regard to Pig Williams and other athletes. The consensus from Mason's fans was bad behavior has been tolerated and "looking the other way" is prevalent by the administration. It sounds like Pig Williams should never have been on the team this year had they followed their own rules internally. Now if that's the case, Campbell, Paris, Augusta all have legit gripes if Mason did not apply measures when its own rules were broken. That's why the 10th Region needs to look at this.
