Last year Chad had 16's ?

SK's roster is mostly 7th and 8th graders,3 Freshmen, 2 Seniors and Sophomore I believe very young team will only get better.

 

How can a 6A school be so young?

I know that is supposed to be a compliment, but SK is not inexperienced. Every player on the field for SK was a starter last year. Just no excuse for 11 errors in a game.

I felt like both pitchers for SK did a nice job. Good control only giving up 1 walk and 1 HBP between the two of them. The Birds had some hits that dropped in "no mans land". I was told they were young as well and they had some early season jitters last night but they didn't play as bad as the score reflects. They will get better I'm sure.

LB... Not sure on the 11 errors... I had 7, I think, which is still high but 11 was an exaggeration....

SK had two young pitchers throw last night. Glover is a 9th grader, they both pitched over 50 pitches a piece and looked good for their first outing against a stacked lineup. The Birds took advantage of sloppy defense. SK had a tough night in the field missing some easy plays, hopefully that gets figured out as the season goes along, but the Birds looked good as expected and were clearly the better team. Graybill scared me a couple of times sliding on a steal and into home. Was a little surprised she was taking that chance this early on. The Birds shortstop is a great reason to go watch them play even if your not a Highlands fan. She's fun to watch.

Like PTW29 said that once the Bats got going the Birds were on Cruise control. One thing is for sure, I can't get enough of watching Haley Coffey play. The girl can flat out shut it down with Defense. If you haven't seen her tote the Leather then you must get out to see her. A very special player!

 

Zoie Barth's 1st official game back after taking a few years off and I must say that Zoie will help this team tremendously as the year goes on. She doesn't look like she has missed a beat Defensively. If you have ever watched Zoie on the Hardwood then you know what you are in for. Someone that will outwork and out hustle the opponent more times than none. It was nice to see her get that 1st Varsity hit yesterday knowing she hasn't picked up a Bat in a very long time. Last Wed's scrimmage against Brossart was Zoe's 1st time swinging a Bat with no practice since she stopped playing in 6th grade.

 

The Birds are off for a few days and then they are headed to Etown this weekend to play in a Invitational against some quality opponents.

Got that number from SK scorekeeper. My guess would be 7 ROE and the other 4 came on extra bases given up.

Every season SK is full of Jr high girls with potential. Don't always seem to develop these young ladies into the players they hope to become then in another year or two a bunch more of Jr high girls are playing with a lone senior or two pretty much baby sitting while riding the bench.

I don't believe this is true. Before last year I can only think of a handful of middle school girls that started at SK and they were exceptional players.

I believe he does say that in the last sentence.

No matter who is on your roster (grade wise), you should play your BEST, regardless of what parents think. Sometimes it's hard for parents and players to accept that younger kids are better than them.

 

IMO, Jeff Morgan does a great job putting the best team that he can on the field.

Have to disagree LB a team cant get better when the coach doesnt teach anything in practice.They are loaded with talent!! That program needs help in a major way.
