Unification? Who can get it done?

Featured Replies

In another thread it was stated that Trump could not unify a already divided United States of America. My question is this? Who can?

Ummmm he can't even unify the Republican party. It's splintering as we speak.

But the answer to the question is no one.

MF and I don't agree on much but we agree on this one. NOBODY can unify us now...or in the near future.

Being a farm girl, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink. However, the one thing that could bring them together with one voice is their combined desire to defeat Hillary.

ISIS.

The GOP has NO SHOT at defeating Hillary if they alienate Trump's base.

This really is the perfect time for a true third party to rise. One that guts people from the Republicans and Democrats.

I really would have liked to see the libertarian party be that party, but I don't know if I have that kind of hope with the Tea Party taking part of their message of small government.

Many people believe in smaller more fiscally responsible government (which is anathema to the Ds) that leaves individual liberty alone (something that is problematic for the Rs). I was hoping that the Ls could have pulled that crowd who wants a smaller government who stays out of your personal life and choices, but we are so indoctrinated into the idea that a third party vote is a vote for the opposition. Well if they pull from both parties then it is a vote for neither.

Ugh. I hate where things are now, a bunch of party tools on the one hand with the establishment candidates and a bunch of populist fools with the "outsider candidates." Tools for one and fools for the other. I am a firm believer in the concept of the Constitutional Democratic Republic that we have here, but this year more than any other I am seeing the darker sides of our electoral process more than ever before.

I only wish there was a Bull Moose candidate to vote for now. Sigh.

Surely someone has a name? I will say though I dont have one. And to me thats sad. This is one of the biggest challenges our country faces right now. If we do not come together, we will fall apart. Thats history and anyone who fails to see the road we are heading down is not a student of history. So please someone give me some hope!

Anyone with a recognizable name is instantly going to be discounted either by their associations, record, or what they are on the record as having said.

Anyone else will be considered too naive to be trusted. We're screwed across the board.

You do realize that who we call unifies today were extremely embattled during their time.

Mr. Trump,

I try my hardest not to be political. I’ve refused to interview several of your fellow candidates. I didn’t want to risk any personal goodwill by appearing to take sides in a contentious election. I thought: ‘Maybe the timing is not right.’ But I realize now that there is no correct time to oppose violence and prejudice. The time is always now. Because along with millions of Americans, I’ve come to realize that opposing you is no longer a political decision. It is a moral one.

I’ve watched you retweet racist images. I’ve watched you retweet racist lies. I’ve watched you take 48 hours to disavow white supremacy. I’ve watched you joyfully encourage violence, and promise to ‘pay the legal fees’ of those who commit violence on your behalf. I’ve watched you advocate the use of torture and the murder of terrorists’ families. I’ve watched you gleefully tell stories of executing Muslims with bullets dipped in pig blood. I’ve watched you compare refugees to ‘snakes,’ and claim that ‘Islam hates us.’

I am a journalist, Mr. Trump. And over the last two years I have conducted extensive interviews with hundreds of Muslims, chosen at random, on the streets of Iran, Iraq, and Pakistan. I’ve also interviewed hundreds of Syrian and Iraqi refugees across seven different countries. And I can confirm— the hateful one is you.

Those of us who have been paying attention will not allow you to rebrand yourself. You are not a ‘unifier.’ You are not ‘presidential.’ You are not a ‘victim’ of the very anger that you’ve joyfully enflamed for months. You are a man who has encouraged prejudice and violence in the pursuit of personal power. And though your words will no doubt change over the next few months, you will always remain who you are.

Sincerely,

Brandon Stanton

This dude needs to interview some ISIS or Al Queda for a balanced perspective.

This post has nothing to do with the question I asked Mcpapa. You are still on the Trump cant do it. Ok I agree he cant do it. Now dont keep saying bad things about Trump. Tell me someone who can unify our country.

You do realize that who we call unifies today were extremely embattled during their time.

I would agree.

See Lincoln, Abraham.
