When I upgraded my TWC they kept my old box and they advised me to save the $8.00 and get my own. It kept on failing on me so I went to buy one. Couldn't find one that had phone/internet and wi-fi all in one. Tried 2 with Staples folks helping me out to no avail.

Called TWC and they brought me a new one and gave advice on where to place it (no comments please). Been very good since then.

I have had my own for a while and TW internet has been perfectly fine for me.

 

I think a lot of people who complain about their internet don't really understand when it's an ISP issue as opposed to a computing/user issue.

 

I have had Fioptics and Time Warner and have never really had any issues. Occasional reboot of the router/modem, but that's it.

I just assume it's the area I live or something. CB was bad when I had it as well (Non-fioptics). I had a brand new computer and it's terrible any time in the evening. I just don't get it. Has trouble loading Netflix at times.

Zoomtown is awful. That's the exception. It's just bad.

I need to do that too.

 

Over the last couple of years Cincinnati Bell Zoomtown has gone from charging $1.99 to increasing it last year to $4.99, to now all of the sudden upping it to $7.99.

 

That's just ridiculous, and especially for the same unit I've been using for about 7 years.

 

What brand did you buy, and how much did it run you?

 

I'm now up to paying $95.88 a year, so no doubt buying one is the way to go.

The screwy part is that on the various blogs I've read regarding the crazy modem fee, Zoomtown customers had purchased their own modem, returned Cincinnati's Bell's to them, and still CB won't take the fee off of their bill saying that the fee is not for the equipment, but for the "option" of using the equipment.

 

Aside from the fee increase, that is also nuts.

 

I guess that I should first phone CB to hear the garbage first hand before deciding what to do.

Can you do this if you have phone service too? My home phone runs from same modem. I turned off the wifi on it back when they installed it and use my own Asus A-C wifi router.

With time warner I think you have to lease their modem to have home phone through them. I look at their compatible list and it only shows modems with internet only or internet/wireless capabilities.

See post 16. I couldn't find anything but a refurbished version of what they use.

Last tech did tell me some law states they have to provide to regional average speed for Internet so there is about to be a really high upgrade in speeds they will be offering.

 

Just have to call them to authorize it to work or whatever that process is called.

 

They just have to change the MAC id on the account. Each device has its own MAC. Quick call to a rep should take care of it.

Just seeing the mention of VOIP in here makes me cringe. With the speeds TWC offers I wouldn't even come close to considering VOIP.
