Mercer County 59 Holmes 55 (State Quarter-Finals)

I think a horn from the score table, as soon as they realized the error had occurred, would have been better.

Not an option while the ball is live.

The two biggest plays of the game that effected the outcome was the two last second there's made by Mercer at the end of the first and second quarters. They executed both plays perfectly.

Proud of these young ladies! They kept their composure. Hard when you don't hit a shot.

The no free throws on a bonus was a game changer, instead of cutting the lead to 6 right away, they run off about 45-50 seconds. Instead of 3 minutes to play you have about 2:10!

Good luck Mercer Co. Gonna be rooting for you the rest of the way!

My bad, got times wayyy offff

Congrats Lady Bulldogs on an amazing season!! & Cograts Jynea Harris on making all tournament team!

I'm shocked by someone throwing a Gatorade Bottle at her from the upper deck.... Smh.

But Congrats to Holmes seniors on a wonder career! Look forward to see what Gulley and Harris do at the next level.

Holmes lost the game in the first half. You knew Bulldogs were going to make a run late like they did against Ryle, but being down 15 or whatever the largest deficit was in the third quarter was just too much to overcome against a quality foe like Mercer County.

Let's talk about the "correctable error" rule and how it came into play in this game.

But first, can someone describe what happened AFTER Holmes was not given the chance to shoot the bonus FTs? They put the ball in play. What happened from there up to the point where they allowed them to come back to shoot? What happens subsequent to the error matters.

Holmes missed too many easy shots, that's why the Bulldogs lost. The officials had nothing to do with this outcome. If Holmes had made half of the wide-open 10-footers they missed, they would have advanced. Give Mercer County the credit. The officials were very good for the most part.

Not an option while the all is live.

The official scorer has got to be on top of situations like this, they should have been watching, and hit the horn the instant they saw the ref head over and begin the inbound. As long as it had not been thrown in, it's still a dead ball, rather or not it's in the referees hands or not, correct? It's not like it was the 7th team foul either, if I'm not mistaken that was Mercers 9th. Surely the official scorer saw what was going on, realized a mistake was taking place.... But maybe not, guess it is possible that 4 people made a mistake all at once! 3 on the court, one at the table. I'm just glad it was not compounded by a made basket after the inbound

Officials still have to know the rules.

Could be on the scorer OR the officials put the ball in play before the table realized the officials were unaware.

that's very disrespectful, people should be ashamed!

Congrats Jynea! It's been a pleasure watching you play!

I really did not think this situation caused much disruption in the flow of the game nor did it affect the outcome at all. Holmes kinda "chased" this game from the beginning. They were down early and did not make runs to close the gap as Mercer controlled the game clock pretty well including late. I have to say I am impressed with this Mercer Co team. #4 is legit and does everything well.....as noted, their execution at the end of quarters setting up & knocking down threes was stellar AND they played stingy D all day. They are long and move well in space and that caused issues with Holmes controlling tempo. They extended their D and even pressured 3/4 court occasionally. Oh yeah, they started 4 Sophs & a Jr and showed incredible poise.....this team will be heard from for a while, including the remainder of this tournament.

Nice season for Holmes......outside shooting was an issue, particularly early. They never quit and I couldn't leave because they play til the end with their disruptive D.

I pick MC to advance to final.....

Congratulations to the Lady Bulldogs on a fantastic season. Unfortunately, they were not able to advance, but Mercer County is a darn good team and was the higher rated team coming in, I believe.

The Lady Bulldogs just couldn't quite get over the hump in the second half.

Mercer shot it really well in the first half and most were corner threes.

What makes Mercer really tough is the all have capable ball handlers and the sophomore #4 Robins is really crafty with the ball. No wonder UK has already offered her.

They did a nice job of spreading floor penetrating and pitching the ball and then attacking.

They are a very nice team and would expect them to make the finals.

No reason for Lady Bulldogs to hang their heads. They battled all the way to the end and just couldn't get that one basket to get it to a one possession game.

I think their lack of depth really caught up to them especially in the second half when they relied on their smaller lineup for practically the entire half.

Lest we forget, the loss of Gulley, mid-season, put a crimp on their depth and interior play even though Brown stepped in and played really well in Gulley's absence.

Jynea Harris was terrific and will be missed.

They return some key ingredients to make another run next year.

I don't think they were throwing it at her. I just think it was some Holmes fans that were upset at the outcome.

It was not Holmes fans...

I agree that the 1&1 that wasn't, and then was did not play a real factor in the outcome. The omnly reason I chose to discuss this to the extent I did, was because I think we should expect the very best officiating at this point of the season. I think everyone would agree that had a few of the "what ifs" had occurred, it very well could have made an impact! I am very proud to be a Titan fan, and this game made me a bit of a Holmes fan. They really showed a ton of grit and effort, to go allong with a world of skill! You Holmes fans/players/coaches and community should be VERY proud of the relentlessness your team showed today! I also can appreciate the well wishes and the support I've seen from comments on this thread. You guys really have shown a lot of grace and humility, values this world needs more of! Keep your heads held high and know that you played a heck if a ball game and left it all, on the floor! Good luck to your graduating seniors, and your team, going forward!
