Yeah feel bad for Holmes too...but if you can't make shots it doesn't matter how good your defense is you won't win games.

But first, can someone describe what happened AFTER Holmes was not given the chance to shoot the bonus FTs? They put the ball in play. What happened from there up to the point where they allowed them to come back to shoot? What happens subsequent to the error matters.

Proud of these young ladies! They kept their composure. Hard when you don't hit a shot.

 

The no free throws on a bonus was a game changer, instead of cutting the lead to 6 right away, they run off about 45-50 seconds. Instead of 3 minutes to play you have about 2:10!

I would like to know this as well. I also wonder if on the inbounds that did transpire after the error, but before the correction, had something like a 5th foul on Souder happened..... Then what?? I'm not sure what the right thing to do is, but I was not a fan of how it was handled!

The determining factor on "too late" to correct is the number of dead ball situations after the error.

 

In this case it sounded like there were no dead balls after the error so putting Holmes back on the line (with lane cleared) is allowed by rule.

 

It has to be caught BEFORE the 2nd dead ball (and remember that a made shot is a dead ball).

 

So Holmes shoots and misses and , say, Mercer rebounds and scores and THEN they say "wait up" it's still allowed as it happened before the 2nd dead ball.

 

Where it really gets crazy is when the team that didn't get to shoot their FTs scores a basket. They STILL get to shoot their FTs if discovered in time. That's when you need to give the opposing coach a little leeway for blowing off steam before you whack him/her with a T.

I think a horn from the score table, as soon as they realized the error had occurred, would have been better.

Englemon only 2 FT's, and Brown didn't attempt a shot for the Dawgs.
